Hello - I've purchased the correct Telephone Style Handset. Thanks Mike for your guidance there!
Now just need your help on identifying make/model and a point in the right direction where I can buy the portable to mobile converter (convertacom) as pictured in the attached photo in above posting. Also see photo at the link just below... http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=2106 this has a a photo from a 93 NCSHP SSP, which has a closer up photo of this piece of equipment I'm trying to obtain or at a minimum identify the make/model to aid my search. Thank you!

Did a little checking...
Geoff Fors actually has a section posted for odd radios, and he mentions the "Aerotron" brand used by NC. Here's a link to his site: http://www.wb6nvh.com/Aerotron/Aeromeg.htm Radio reference has a guy who probably still works for NC, and he seems to have a wealth of knowledge about their equipment. Here is a link to the thread: http://forums.radioreference.com/nor...al-trafic.html I'd join there and PM him.

Mike - Thanks for your research on this piece of equipment. Going to be interesting to learn just what it is. I put a a posting on Radio Reference in the Wanted section a couple days ago. Will PM this gentleman as you've suggested...he'll probably be able to help me out. I'll be sure to let you know what I learn. Thanks again.

Hello,
At Mike's suggestion I sent a PM message to a person over at RadioReference.com who appeared to be pretty knowledgable on equipment North Carolina used/uses. That gentlement replied to me with quite a bit of information. Thanks Mike for your help...it paid off with some good info. I know what type of converatcom was in my North Carolina State Highway Patrol SSP. Here'a how he described what was used...a Tait 25 watt VHF mobile radio/crossband repeater/walkie charger unit. Although retired this gentleman is retired he was one of the people who were hands on with installing and maintaining the equipment for North Carolina. He's evidently still friends with a number of the radio personnel with the NCSHP and is going to see what other info he can gather from them to assist me in my effort. If anyone has suggestions on where I can find this piece of Tait made equipment I would be appreciative. Have been surfing on my day off and coming up empty so far. Warm Regards,

I'm fortunate to be able to share that I've acquired from the NCSHP a Tait T800 25 watt VHF mobile radio controller / crossband repeater / handheld radio charger unit along with a correct Tait TU2500 handheld.
Link to a photo from an 89 NCSHP SSP where you can see the controller & handheld. http://www.specialservicemustang.net...2&d=1253492249 Plus I've attached a photo of the controller & handheld I received today. They also sent the trunk mounted radio (not pictured). This whole system was specifically designed and made special or the NCSHP. Unfortunately as I understand the controller and system in general were prone to not working right from the very beginning. All but a hand full of these systems have been taken out of service and in 99.99% of the cases have been disposed of as junk. It's been worked over so won't be returned to being functional but that's OK. Given what I've learned about this piece of equipment I feel very fortunate to have obtained it. Required quite a bit of digging around to find along with a little luck and a few accompanying miracles. I have to say, though, the journey on this stuff is in many ways the most fun part of this particular hobby.
