I added a few dozen cars recently using photos found online and from members like Mick. Here are the current totals by year -

1982 --- 30
1983 --- 52
1984 -- 109
1985 -- 278
1986 -- 340
1987 -- 451
1988 -- 445
1989 -- 605
1990 -- 454
1991 -- 240
1992 -- 319
1993 -- 528
------------
. . . 3,851 SSP Mustangs confirmed *

* - Since we know that the 394 units grouped together in 1982 are all SSP Mustangs built for the CHP, the total really is over 4K SSP Mustangs that are confirmed in the Project. We also recreated/updated the usage chart from the ORG site after it went down (Google "Wayback Machine" to see how), and have determined that there were at least 9K SSP Mustangs ordered by state agencies (an estimated number, of course). Very cool!

Great info Bill!

Enjoyed seeing the update pics of the Border Patrol SSP. Weren’t there (2) of those SSP’s? If so is the other in private hands or is that one stored away by the Border Patrol?

There was talk of a second Border Patrol SSP, but all of the photos show the same unit (via plate number).

If memory serves me right, the talk was one was in AZ and one was in TX. Seems to me the one in AZ was moved to TX, recently. I don’t know if any of the talk was ever backed up with evidence.

Do we have the VIN of the one in the Border Patrol Museum? Would be an interesting Mart Report.

The one in the museum is this one, which has carried the same license plate number for years.

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info289707.htm

It is in a group of 5 consecutive V8 notch VINs.

In my talks with the President of the Border Patrol Museum, they only had one car. The car was in storage for the longest time, but has had a fresh "resto" and is back on display in the museum. Jim Dorion has some good contacts with the BP.

.1982. 15
.1983. 07
.1984. 14
.1985. 25
.1986. 26
.1987. 17

.1989. 22
.1990. 12
.1991. 20
.1992. 27
.1993. 38
---------
total 246

So that makes 87 four-eyed SSP's, and 159 aero SSP's as of today. That's about a 2:1 ratio.
That was 12 years ago. Time has flown by! Here are the current totals by year -

1982 --- 30 *
1983 --- 53
1984 -- 114
1985 -- 278
1986 -- 344
1987 -- 455
1988 -- 449
1989 -- 611
1990 -- 467
1991 -- 248
1992 -- 331
1993 -- 530
------------
. . . 3,910 SSP Mustangs confirmed
