Every single CHP Mustang I've dealt with has had the mechanism deleted. I'm sure they were purposely deleted by Ford for officer safety as it requires both hands to remove the keys with the release in place.

This is the column from my 92 GSP. Notice there is not even a hole for the button... Totally different column!

Upon further checking my 91 GT does not have one either. I think they stopped doing the buttons on the automatic cars when they went to the shifter lock out system. Maybe the 92 column with button is from a 5 spd? Hmmm... just checked and the 87 FHP has one... lol No help there, but any of these could have been swapped by now anyway...

I do not recall ANY CHP units ever having an ignition key release on them.
I am sure CHP made that a delete option, or FORD may have.
I am sure it was an option when ordering SSP's for the departments.

But all I recall ever having to do was turn the key off and pull it out of the ignition. No release buttons on CHP SSP's.

I drove the late 82's thru early 93's units on the patrol.
