Default More Texas DPS Auction Info!

A huge THANK YOU goes out to Tom M. aka "1989 Tx DPS SSP" for sending in his collection of auction paperwork on a large number of Texas DPS Mustangs (plus other makes too). There are over 300 Mustangs listed in the many pages of information. It will take some time to go through and create the new webpages for each SSP, however there are several SSPs already listed in our project that are also included in the auction paperwork from Tom. These SSPs were either: owned/found by members; ones where we ordered Marti Reports; or ones where we pulled Texas DMV info. Below is a list of those cars:

VERY cool stuff. Thanks again, Tom!

In the three consecutive groups with TXDPS in '86 (GF229980-230018, GF231677-231686, and GF231700-231723) it looks like the first two batches (DSO 57-0114 and DSO 57-0112) might have all had manual transmissions and the last batch (DSO 57-0116) might have all had automatic transmissions.

As part of Tom's auction information, we found a lone 1985 Mustang that is part of a 10-car consecutive unit number block of VINs:

Note that this car's listed unit number is #F5-231, not #M5-231 (interesting!). All but one of these ten Mustangs show Texas DMV records, so we may be able to verify all ten cars as SSPs by pulling Marti Reports on the first and last ones of the batch.

That's pretty cool info!

In the 1988 auction list, in the middle of the second column is a 1988 Mustang (lot #38)....1FABP40E6JF267509. That is a single VIN, i.e. not in a batch of 2 or more consecutive P40E VINs.

Looks like unit numbers started with "F" through '85 and "M" from '86 through '93. I have EF184685 as unit #F4-413 but I don't know where I got that from.

Not sure about '83....haven't seen any unit numbers for any of them yet.

That '85 unit number also looks to be the EFI/AOD combo, per the "AT" indication in the auction lot number info. Being that the CUN is so high, it is the 180 HP version (headers and dual muffler & tailpipes).

Some of the "F" cars are Vics and trucks. I have seen a "C" used in the unit numbers for the Chevy Caprice and Camaro models. A "P" was used on a Plymouth van, and a "D" was used for Dodges.

So looks like for the Mustang they used the make for the unit number in '84 and '85 and the model for the unit number in '86 and later. As in....

F = Ford
M = Mustang

Looks like the Crown Vic continued with the F designate, and Dodge continued with D, and and Plymouth continued with P, after '85.

Mick, Texas DPS may have made the change from F to M on the Mustangs during the 1985 model year. Here is one with a higher VIN and a #M5-xxx number:

Hmmm...interesting.

FF188608 was shipped to a dealer in TX but there are no other records for that VIN, which is why nothing is showing up in the TX title search. Wonder what happened to that one.
