First off, welcome to our forum!
Once you get the VIN, you can check it against our VIN list of 1992 V8 notchbacks, as found here:
http://www.specialservicemustang.net/VINlist/92VIN.html
Just remember, finding that car's VIN on the list does not prove it is a SSP. You have to look at other factors, because the list includes civilian cars and SSPs. Are there any other confirmed SSPs with active links inside the same batch of cars? SSPs were typically produced with consecutive VINs, so if this car's VIN falls between two confirmed SSPs within the same batch, then it is definitely a SSP.
You will need to check for other SSP clues. If the original VIN label is still on the driver's door, see what the DSO number is. All SSPs have a 6-digit DSO number, but having a 6-digit DSO does not prove the car is a SSP. Some civilian cars were specially ordered too. But if this car has a 2-digit DSO, then it is a civilian car. There are other clues to look for as well, which are discussed in our
technical section.
The missing Buck Tag does limit the appeal somewhat, but now that you can order a
Mart Report from Marti Auto, you can discover with certainly how the car was originally optioned.
