Late summer projects w/Michigan State Police SSP #5114

Like many of you, my goal with is to accomplish a few things each year to continue to refine, or polish the stone, so to speak. With no more shows planned this year with the 1992 Michigan State Police SSP #5114, a few items were just completed in that spirit of polishing a stone that is already very nice (thanks to Bruce Howard).

Although completed late last year, I replaced the reproduction door emblems and lightning bolts with correct original artwork items. Installation included the correct placement (or orientation) of the lighting bolts to match the many in-service pictures I have of this SSP and others from the 1992 MSP model year.

This week, the quarter windows were replaced with NOS ones I purchased about 4 years ago. The ones that were on there were original, and while not terribly bad, had some imperfections. I'll have the old ones refinished and use them as a backup set.

Also completed this week was a return to the correct trim black in-service color for the side moldings. They had been in the bumper color twilight blue, which looked very cool, but was not correct to how the MSP SSPs were in-service. The front and rear bumper are, and continue to be, in the correct twilight blue, which is non-matching with the special order color on the rest of the car. My understanding is one could only have bumpers installed with stock colors (although I suppose if one was to pay for the privilege perhaps it could have been done to match).

Sorry the pictures are not that great, but thought I'd share with the forum. One thing about the special order blue on the car, it looks very different depending upon the lighting conditions. Thank you.

Very cool Mike!
My 92 GSP's original rear cover was just like that. Twilight blue without black moldings, yet the body side moldings were black. I did not have my original front cover (although I know it was ultra blue) I do not know if it had the black moldings or body color like the rear? Of all the GSP pics I've acquired, non are of 92's except the one of mine, without the front of the car visible. There were only 19 of them so finding a good pic is going to be a challenge...
Your car is looking awesome! Are you not attending Savannah?

Bill - Oh no...this one and the 1993 MSHP SSP are staying put! Now, the UHP B4C...that one will be going up for sale, although I do really like it. Like I said, just polishing the stone. Try to do a little something each year to the cars. For this SSP, these items have been on the list since I bought it, but I was in no hurry...did not want to be hasty or regret something later.
