90 SSP TX DPS has a new home

4 Attachment(s)
Well got the 90 SSP home this afternoon. She needs some work (allot of work) didn't realize how rough she was. I got the stock springs and stock hood and some other things. he could only find one of the original seats. Well I can already tell you that I'm not going to try to go to show room stock way to much work for my shallow pockets. It is a TX DPS car from the VIN Project. the door sticker is long gone, did have the department fleet#, has the two buck tags. On the good note the Odometer says the car only has 92K miles.

chp1982 04-17-2014 12:43 PM

Congrats. What are your plans for the car?

hwyrnr221 04-17-2014 01:25 PM

I dont think my pockets are going to be deep enough to restore it to the original TX DPS dress. So im thinking about getting the exterior back to what stock SSP look, with stock height and wheels. Do what i can with the interior and make a tribute car for my department. But need to get everything mechanicaly sound first.

was messing with the car a little today and found on the door under a few layers of paint what I thought might be the door tag. the first pick is after about two hours of very careful razor work. and the second picture is after another two or so hours.

how do I get this added to the sites Vin project?

nicely done. four hours well spent.

FoxChassis 04-22-2014 08:36 AM

Once Bill (28HopUp) sees this, and has some time to get it done, he'll add the door tag to this car's page in the VIN Project. Are you able to take a good pic of the buck tags?

hwyrnr221 04-22-2014 09:59 AM

Not yet on the buck tag. I will get good pictures when i get the front off.

MOstang 04-22-2014 10:53 AM

that's a good job getting the paint off your door tag. :2thumbs:

Unmrkd 04-22-2014 11:08 AM

You can now be like the rest of us -- Get your tools out, pack a big lunch and take out a home equity loan. Welcome to the SSP addiction!

nighthawk756 04-22-2014 01:23 PM

Amazing that they just painted over the tag! Glad it was still there! Kudos on the hard work revealing the tag again. ;)

28HopUp 04-22-2014 03:24 PM

Well the last couple of days i have been working on getting the SSP de ricky racered. What the heck was the PO thinking and doing. Someone removed the smog pump, which i can deel with. But almost all the other stuff dealing with vacuum and emission were missing or diconected. Removed the under drive pulley and put the stock crank pulley back on. Has an electric fan and bee cool radiator which im okay with. But the fan was hooked up to come on when the key is turned on, so i put on an adjustable temp switch on it. Went to the local pull apart and found i think most of the stuff to reconect the emmision and vacuum back up with the exception of the smog pump.
while i was there they brought in 3 CVPI and the prior agency forgot to take out the 4 corner strobes and power supply, switch box headlight flasher and tail light flasher. Also scored the CVPI acc power pig tail and a ford overhead round work light and two spot lights one white and one red"yes i know they are not the right ones" got some mustang interior part. All this for $50.00. Good day for tracking.
thanks, James

Nice score with the CV equipment, and the SSP.

hwyrnr221 05-10-2014 10:27 AM

Neat story. Well was looking for some smog equipment on my local craigslist. I text a guy to see if he had one. the guy said no, why are you wanting a smog pump. I told him about my problem with the car and what my plans were, and that it was an SSP. The guy was intrigued by it being an SSP. Well it was determined he lived about a 1/4 mile from the house and told him to swing by and look at my project. Guy shows up and he's a Fox Body guy. We sit in the garage and BS for a little about cars and my plans, and he ask to hear it run. I start it up and its doing it surge thing and all. He ask if he could use my tools real quick and after about 15 min. of pulling the IAC and cleaning it and adjusting the TPS and throttle adjustment screw and retiming it the car runs great!!!
Very nice guy, has a couple of Fox Body's and looks like he has a bunch of stock Fox Body stuff like 4 lug stuff and other items that he said I was more then welcome to have when I needed it. His brother has a 4 cylinder car and his brother is wanting to swap his seats(the kind I need) for my SN95 seats, as well as his stock LX tail lights and headlights for the smoked after market lights on mine. And they are also setting me up with a local guy that has 20 something Fox Body mustangs he uses for part.

John Connor 05-10-2014 10:34 AM

I love to find people who swap parts for parts. And what a score.

nighthawk756 05-10-2014 11:48 AM

Fantastic chance meeting! Congrats!

hwyrnr221 05-16-2014 12:27 AM

I got the factory rear springs on with no problem. I am having a hard time trying to get the front factory sprins on. I used a spring compressor, i even removed to a arm. I am unable to get these things on. What am i missing.

Well got the car lifted back up on the stock springs, got a spot light mounted with the correct brackets "yes I know its not the right spotlight but it motivation" and traded for some stock tail lights.

reason its on the trailer had a little break down on the way home. I think a rocker arm came loose from my valve and spring replacement. will look at it on my days off.

Thanks for looking, James

Well tearing the front down so I can get it straighten and new core support and what ever else needs to be done.

Been working on getting parts ordered. So lets see how this goes.

Thanks, James

nighthawk756 06-07-2014 08:42 PM

Making good progress! Keep it up! ;)

hwyrnr221 06-09-2014 10:10 PM

Well got the dash pulled out and the wire harness on the driver side pulled out. tomorrow I'm going to try to get the heater box pulled and the passenger harness pulled. Trying to get everything ready to pull the motor and trans on Thursday or Friday so I can get the car over to the guy that's going to replace and fix the radiator core support and the passenger side forward of the shock tower.

Needless to say I have never done a restoration or rebuild before and with all the parts around the garage its kind of overwhelming.

Well got the engine pulled hope to get it to the guy that's going to get the front straight and put the radiator core in. been working on cleaning bits and pieces. 20+ years of dirt and dust every where.

hwyrnr221 06-13-2014 05:49 AM

Got the car sent out to have it straighten out and new radiator core support. Also having new a arm bushings and ball joints, rack and pinion, door hinge pins, and converted back to the 4 lug stuff. So hopefully in a week or so ill get it back. During this time im going to work on getting the dash cleaned inside and out. Put the upholstry back together, and square away the heater box. Got plenty to do while its gone.

Thanks, James

Well here are some pics of some of the repairs being done. the new radiator core support is in as well as the pass. side inner what ever its called. the guy doing the work is a guy named Jimmy Easton. Thanks Jimmy it looks great. he said its as straight as it can be and measured right to the T. Jimmy is putting my 4 lug stuff back on, door pins, K member, rack and pinion, and a few other things. Jimmy loves restoring Mustangs and is loving being part of my SSP resto.
