Scored a cool dual CHP gunrack
1 Attachment(s)
I scored a cool gun rack on ebay. I think I may try to put this one in 2920, if it fits with out too much modification.
|
Nice, I have one as well. but mine came out of a caprice or crown vic.
It can be modified to fit a mustang. The mustangs would have carried mini 14's as a second weapon in the car. Later vehicles carried M-1 AR-15's. You'll have to see which one fits in the second electroloc. I drove mustangs in the Stockton area that had a shotgun and mini 14 in them. I have a picture of a mustang I drove that has both in it, you can see them clearly in the pic. Nice score ! BTW.... no copy of that article yet. Wondering if I'll ever see it. |
Nice find, Jack! :)

John, Could you post up the pics with the dual rack with the mini 14. I have only seen one picture of a dual rack with the shotgun and mini 14 in it.
|
Will do. It is a picture looking through the front window is all.
You can only see the barrels of both weapons. Will try to do that today for you. |
Pretty sure that the rifles started being issued in 89-91. I have dual racks for 89 Caprices and 90's crown vics.
The one you have looks to be a crown vic style. You would have to modify where it mounts on the dash |
Tried to upload the phto. Too large I guess. I'll email it to you.
We started getting the Mini-14's in 1986. That is when they started training and " qualifying " us with the weapon. The rifle was placed and stored in trunks originally. A year or two after that is when they started placing them inside the vehicles. Not sure what year they changed to AR style weapons. I am guessing late 90's or 2000. There were no AR weapons in 1995 that I can remember. |

John, do you recall how the light by the center rearview mirror mounted? I have the light with correct bracket but if mount it directly to headliner, it hits the windshield glass. Did it have a spacer between headliner and bracket?
|
uuuuuuhhhhhhhh lol I do have an original mirror red light. I am not attaching it in my car. But I did place it there for looks.
I do not recall it hitting the windshield, there is a 4" or so trim piece from the top windshield frame that extends out and is covered by the headliner. When I replaced my headliner, I did not see screw holes where one would have been attached. But it seemed to fit ok if I would have attached it. Maybe you have a light for another type of vehicle ?? They were in caprices, mustangs etc. That I remember driving. But no, I do not know or remember exactly how they were attched. I'll look at mine again and see how it fits and email you back. Sorry. |
My dad has a couple of the older mirror lights. Some have LTD written in chalk on them and some have Caprice on them. The plate that screws into the headliner is probably angled differently on each car.
|
Thanks for the replies. My headliner has the original holes and they match up to the bracket. The bracket and light came off another SSP Mustang but I did not take it off and putting it on the way I'm guessing it should be causes the light to strike the windshield. I just don't want to have to cut the bracket to modify it to fit, but I'll figure something out.

The " cone " or metal box that the actual red light sits in behind ( shield ) had a vacume line sliced and pushed onto the shield as a gasket so to speak for the shield to rest against the windshield. IF that is what you are talking about.
It acted as a vibration - rattle stop and kept the shield in place against the windshield. So yes, the shield does rest against the windshield. The shield rests over, or slides over and onto the red light and should be attached ( or held in place ) behind the red light with a spring that goes from left to right on the back of the shield. The shield is just a light blocker, so it directs the red light forward instead of to the sides, up and down when it is on. It has no support function at all. Was that the original question you were asking me about ? If you need pictures, pm me your email address. I'll get some close up pics for you. Hope that helps some ? |
Thank you, John! your help is much appreciated. PM sent.

NICE ! That looks correct. Shotguns were ( are ) Remington 870 All black, they have been parkerized.
I can get you the info for the CHP ammo pouch that goes on the stock of the shotgun. They are about $60.00 with shipping. They are leather and have CHP stamped on them. Black. Shotgun shells are red, buck shot. It looks really nice ! Good job ! |
Sweet!
