There are several ways that members can contribute to our efforts with the VIN Project. In addition to sending money for us to run Marti Reports, we have had a few members order reports and send them to us. Below is a listing of the Top 20 "Most Wanted" VINs (listed chronologically) when it comes to ordering Marti Reports:
Everyone has their personal favorites when it comes to agencies. You may see a car on the above list that holds a personal interest. If you decide to run any of these, please post up the ones you plan to order, or send me a PM so we avoid having folks order duplicates. ;) |
I do not have a Marti Report for Kentucky State Police 141234, but that is the car that KSP still owns. Auto check shows when it was built, but no registered owners. Just like my KSP car did until I bought it. I did order a Marti report on 141233. Not received it yet !
|
Gary, it will be interesting the see the Marti Report for the VIN preceding the SSP still owned by the KSP. I am not sure of the DSO number for that car, which is why its VIN is on the wish list for a Marti Report. The next VIN is also on the list because it is likely the first car in the batch of Missouri SSP Mustangs that year. :)

86 FHP

Attached is the Auto Check Report for the 86 FHP I picked up from 5.0 Joe on the other site. It falls in between two confirmed FHP vins. The buck tags are missing and the data sticker is faded and hard to read but the DSO # 24-0243 and vin # 1FABP26M4GF248663.

Mike, my apologies for the delayed response. We've been fairly busy, but I received your emails and have updated your new SSP's page -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info141249.htm There is some GREAT documentation now on this page folks - it's worth taking a look. In addition, we can now document all of the 1990 MSHP cars in this batch. :D |
Quote:
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info141250.htm That's 15 cars added to the VIN Project. Thanks again, Mike! :D |
Thanks Bill! :2thumbs: It's fun to fill in these pieces. Some cool documentation each of my MSHP SSPs have, but this 1990 MSHP SSP has some great documents and interesting items I've not seen up until now.

The 91 SSP still owned by the GSP wasn't the only GSP Mustang at the MCA Show to generate interest. As nice as the restored cars were (and they WERE quite nice!), William (ex91gsp) brought along his unrestored 91 GSP Mustang. The car still has it's original paint, and you can clearly see the ghost images of the lettering and seal on the sides of the car. I was able to capture the words in some photos, which I have added to the page for this SSP -

I was at a local car show Saturday and had a gentleman looking at the PA car. As we were talking he stated he had an 88 SSP that was never in service. I was able to get pictures of the car and the data plate. With the camera on my cell phone, I was not able to get a good picture of the buck tags.

John, thanks for the pictures. I updated the car's page in our Project. This car is also posted for sale as an FYI in our Classifieds section -

That's great to hear, John. I think this is the car where the factory window sticker disappeared before being sold by a previous owner, but we were able to get a picture of it for the VIN Project a while back before it went missing. Although this SSP does not have any police history, it still is an interesting car IMO.

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info176512.htm I can add GSP confirmation of the Perm number in the future. ;) |
Bobby sent me a few photos from the GSP presentation at the MCA show, which I added to the car's page -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info176508.htm Thanks for everything, Bobby! :) |

Ken sent me a few more photos to add to the page for his 1989 blue & white SMPV Mustang -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info211314.htm The interesting thing about his CHP Assignment Card is that the color is typed as BLUE/GRAY, which confirms that it was originally put into service as a SMPV, rather than being a B&W patrol unit that was pulled off the road and repainted. |
Quote:
Have you got GSP's on the brain today? LOL;) |
Haha! Yes, I was surprised to see it listed as BLUE/GRAY as well, since the car was painted BLUE/WHITE.
|
was it white or was it something like smoke (i think that was the name or something similar in 1989) which is like a light grey that often looks white in pictures?
cool car, by the way! |
It is my understanding that the CHP took Ken's car from MT as painted B&W from Ford, and painted the blue over the black. The car was then upfitted to be a SPMV. I cannot explain why it says BLUE/GRAY on the Assignment Card.
I would also like to thank Mick (again!) for bird-dogging pictures from a SSP seller. Here is a 1988 GSA car that we are able to add to the Project thanks to Mick's efforts - http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info266171.htm :) |
Quote:
Just to add to that, my car never had holes for the whip antenna or the roof antenna. Also, the shotgun/radio mount holes were different from the standard B&W. Thanks again for adding those to the VIN file. |
Thank you, Ken! :)
And more thanks go out to Mick for his persistence in getting pictures from the seller of this car: http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=5805 Because of Mick's efforts, we were able to add a 3rd 1989 Hall County (unconfirmed) car to the VIN Project - http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info289898.htm :D |
Interesting...does that Tag have "State" instead of "Police" or the Agency Name? Or am I just overlooking a word after "State"?
|
Tag says "STATE" and nothing else on the same line, that I can see anyway. KF289900 and KF298907 say the same thing.
|
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info289898.htm
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info289900.htm http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info289907.htm The tags for these unconfirmed Hall County cars appear to only say: DSO-21-0236 |
Here is an updated page using a photo posted online of a FHP new unit check list -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info240773.htm Pretty cool! |
Cool indeed!
|
I received an email from a man who used to own a SSP that is confirmed in our VIN Project. The car had been listed as being unconfirmed agency usage because all we had to confirm it as a SSP was a Marti Report. Ironically, the only reason we had a Marti Report was becuase it is the first VIN after the batch of 1991 GSP cars. It turns out this car was used by Gwinnett County, Georgia, so I revised the page to indicate its unconfirmed usage -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info176534.htm :) P.S. - we do have an AutoCheck report for this car, as seen here. |
The long-time owner of a 1988 New York State Police SSP Mustang posted up on Facebook (at my request) some documentation he received after buying the car 15 years ago -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...vallisting.jpg So we are able to add 4 more 1988 NY SSP Mustangs to the VIN Project. Here is the page for the car that was posted on FB, which includes two pictures from 1999 as purchased, and one current picture with it being turned into a full-blown dragster - http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info258850.htm This SSP is a good example of how cars were utilized by civilian owners after coming out of service. At least the documentation survived, allowing us to confirm four more SSPs. |
You certainly do not see Wyoming SSPs turn up every day -

I found it while doing a national CL search for "SSP Mustang" -

The seller was nice enough on the phone. He is asking $6K for the roller (that's not a typo), but would take less if the LS swap parts are not part of the deal. A restored Wyoming SSP would certainly be unique. Here is an in-service shot -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ges/WY/WY3.jpg |
As an FYI, we are closing in on having documented almost 3,100 SSP Mustangs so far. :D
