Seems like if you going to present these cars you have your facts right.

He was probably nervous. A slip. Cool video even if there were mistakes.

I don't think facts have ever gotten in Leno's way before.

That '82 was the one that was posted here a couple months ago as a newly surfaced SSP. There is a nice youtube video on the car. Wrong upholstery but otherwise super nice. How cool to see one sitting in Jay's garage! It looked awesome.

Jay Leno's Garage CHP Vehicles
I was surprised they did not mention the 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 B07 Police package used by the CHP for 1 year. Even if they only showed a photo. Believe they bought about 1400 + units. Automotive journalist Tom McCahill did a road test article for Mechanix Illustrated Magazine on this vehicle which I remember reading way back when. Hemmings had a restored unit featured in their publication some time back, positive I have it in storage. It would probably be the only one left?
Sam, your Dad must have some knowledge on these cars. Too bad we can't save them all! Bruce |

The SSP and the 69 Polara are privately owned vehicles. The other 2 are CHP Museum cars. ( up close they are pretty rough ) lol
( the Crown Vic was a local CHP area's patrol car. ) That is why they did not have some of the other cars. The museum does not have too many cars. When I heard that Leno asked the Museum for the cars, I offered my SSP to those involved in hopes they would use it on the show also. I am not sure who the 82 SSP belongs to, but the owner of the 69 is a good friend of Spike Helmick. Spike is the Committee Chairman for the CHP Museum. I am sure Leno only had room for a few cars. The Polara owner and vehicle lives close by to Burbank, CA. The CHP vehicles were transported down and back to the academy. Spike was nervous LOL he's a crack up jokester usually. Great guy, I could tell he was nervous. Leno also rushed his questions, leaving not much time for Spike to think LOL Great show though ! We all make mistakes. I hope there are more shows on CHP vehicles. Leno is a huge supporter of the CHP. When a former partner of mine died on duty in 1997 ( Calif. floods ) drove off into a washed out highway, killing both officers, Leno raised a huge amount of money for his family. Leno is a good guy !

Here's a restored 67 Olds, owned by a friend of mine in the Bay area. Original CHP unit, I have driven it and it is a great ride.

I met Matt, he's a nice guy. My dad sold him most of the metal equipment on his car(pushbar, partition, ect). It is a really nice car. I have pictures of it after the accident when it was a legal hold car. It was actually a lightbar car originally. There is one other CHP caprice that is as nice if not more accurate now and that's owned by a guy in Sweden. Sold him some stuff and I've helped make his car as correct as possible other than an original CHP lightbar and radio system. I think those are the only two round body caprices restored. There is one very accurate 89 or 88 somewhere in California. |

That is the only 67 restored. My dad has one too, but we haven't started the restoration on it. My dad does have the sole surviving 60 CHP Dodge Polara though |
