Default CHP PIN???...???..??.?

A neighbor of mine here in Idaho that is from the American part of California (Northern
California) gave me this pin.... he said that a relative that was a member of the CHP in
Northern California (the American part) had given this to him years ago and he thought i
should have it? why.....because i have a former CHP car? the Penny is just a reference for
the size of the pin.....any Ideas? anyone seen one?

Looks like it would make a good tie-tac....don't those guys wear bowties, though?

Yes it is a tie tack and its still available from the academy PX. (I use mine on occation)... and as far as the bow tie.. thats only a "motor thing". We (CHP) must wear some type of neck wear if you have any jacket on. If you have the "green jacket" on you need to wear a tie or bow tie if your a motor. The everyday blue jacket.... you can wear a "dicky" fake turtle-neck thing if you don't want to wear the tie.
