Somebody recently asked how many SSPs we have documented so far. Here is the current count as of today:

1982 . . 22 SSPs
1983 . . 35
1984 . . 73
1985 . .246
1986 . .151
1987 . .389
1988 . .263
1989 . .403
1990 . .271
1991 . .148
1992 . .191
1993 . .377
-----------
. . . 2,569 SSPs Total in Project

We ordered five more Marti Reports this week, thanks in part to Bobby who forwarded some scratch to run 3 reports on likely GSP Mustangs (thanks again Bobby!). I will post those up once they arrive.

Thanks go out to Bobby for having three Marti Reports run. Two of them came back as SSP Mustangs, and are part of the GSP group from 1983 -

The third report was for a possible GSP from 1987. It was an educated guess which did not pan out for us. Still, the Marti Report DID turn up something interesting (check out the second option listed).

I know! Not only is it a coincidence to have randomly found an ASC McLaren, but we confirmed that at least some of them were ordered with 6-digit DSO numbers. Attached is a VIN label for another 1987 ASC McLaren that also has a 6-digit DSO.

So a question comes up now regarding our VIN Project. We have been adding a notation to civilian VINs when found to say that they are not SSPs. Should we continue this practice with the ASC McLarens? The VINs for quite of few of them are known.

I vote yes...

I know our PROJECT is for SSP's
But i think any info we find should be posted up for a more (complete) list.

Just my 2 cents worth:-)

I agree with Bobby and say why not? Given one might mistake or misrepresent (without putting a little extra effort) a DSO on a car like this as being associated with an SSP.

Until now I had not realized that 1987-1990 ascMclaren convertibles were build on the LX 5.0L coupe body (P40E). I had seen the VINs for these cars before I just had not payed attention that they were P40E. I sent Bill an email last night covering all of the aero asc VINs. The total is over 1800.

Once I regained consciousness I was able to process that number in my head. I think I will start off with adding a comment like:

- [ascMcLaren, not a SSP]

...to the cars that are confirmed, as opposed to creating a registry for the cars by listing all of the VINs indicated so far. It is still quite a few cars. And identifying them as not being SSPs is still helpful to our efforts, especially since they came with 6-digit DSO numbers too.
