Mike, you've been holding out on me! Can you attach or email me the information on those cars for the Project?

Default Secret Inside Information!

Not really, but y'all may find it somewhat interesting. At the bottom of the VIN listings for each year, I recently added a number in the lower left corner of each page. That number is the total SSPs documented for that particular year. The number will increase as future links are activated, which will make it easier to keep track of the total number of cars in our VIN Project. As of today, the numbers break down as follows:

1982. . .94
1983. . .31
1984. . .80
1985. . 237
1986. . 172
1987. . 379
1988. . 236
1989. . 352
1990. . 185
1991. . 158
1992. . 200
1993. . 423
------------
TOTAL 2,547 SSPs

Default Marti Reports

I had a PM exchange with a member today about the Marti Reports. I commented that there are 30 VINs (CHP, FHP, AzDPS, and NYSP) on my immediate list to be pulled by the end of January as funds allow. There are another 15 or so VINs (many different agencies) that are on my "want" list. Then there are another 27 VINs for suspected Texas DPS cars (which I may not need to pull if some documentation comes in). At a cost of $15 per report, the total gets rather expensive. He recommended that I consider posting up a Paypal link in case any of you want to contribute financially.

I'm not well acquainted with how Paypal works in terms of establishing a pay button/link, but if anyone wants to contribute to our VIN Project, my Paypal account is mm750 [at] comcast [dot] net (use the actual symbols and remove the spaces). I will gladly acknowledge in this thread everyone who contributes (unless they want to keep their name out of it). There's no obligation here - we're all friends so any amount is welcome. It's a bit awkward for me to even post this up, but this is something we can do for the benefit of the hobby.

Looking more closely at this picture, it seems that the belt line is black... That wouldn't be for a '93 car, would it? It would be body color. I'm working on my car again. I should scrap a little spot on the belt line and see what color is underneath the Reef Blue.

Toshi, the CHP would have repainted the car either way, so they could have left the beltline black. Let us know what you find on your car's beltline.

I would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to MikeP (aka MOstang) for sending in some scratch via Paypal (see post #345) so I could run another series of Marti Reports. With Mike's help, we ordered four reports on the following 1984 CHP Mustangs:

203911
204040
and
205174
205285

These four reports confirm a known range of VINs for two batches of 1984 CHP Mustangs that all have the same DSO number. Using these four reports and the State of California smog website, we were able to confirm 75 more CHP Mustangs for 1984. Thanks Mike!

Using 4 more Marti Reports and confirmed ranges of SSPs, we just added 31 CHP Mustangs from 1991, and 52 from 1992. That leaves 101 more 1992 pages to be created and added over the weekend, and then the CHPs will be done (in terms of using the California smog website to verify SSPs). Once those are added, we will have over 2,800 SSPs in our project.

Pictures were provided recently of auction paperwork from 1993 and 1997 for various Texas DPS cars. The individual who posted the pictures agreed to allow our use of these photos for the VIN Project, and we were able to document 37 more Texas DPS Mustangs! Here is an example:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info166864.htm

Similar documentation was provided for a 38th SSP which was already included in our project:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info139187.htm

I do not recall the source of the pictures from this SSP, but it obviously is a known car that either belongs to a member or was listed for sale. I hope it belongs to a member, who will benefit from now having the auction paperwork for his SSP.

I have M3-262 (PF139187) as being listed on ebay in July 2012 in Amarillo, TX. Don't know if that was a member here selling it, or if a member here bought it.

Those auction lists have provided four more previously unknown batches of VINs for me to check at the TX DMV site.
