Good luck with your purchase! You heard the old expression about opinions...but I concure with keeping it as close to original if you are putting back to it's in-service livery (if you don't plan on driving it daily).
I would suggest skipping the LED's for more traditional strobes as they are still plentiful new or used. You can look at Ebay or the municipal aution site: http://www.govdeals.com/eas/ Enjoy!

Thanks! It will be a daily driver for probably 2-3 years, giving me enough time to work on my '88 GT convertible. I might have really thin magnetic decals made that have the "Ford Police Vehicles" logo on it to put on the doors to at least show the car (will make it look like the 89-90 brochure car minus the lightbar). This way I can take it off and not have to worry about the police, although it is legal to have it on the door. When I stop driving it, I'll put the original lights on. Thanks for the link!
