Default 1982 CHP 0567

After having my arm twisted for far too long, I found myself taking 1982 CHP 0567 off Greg's (Wolfe1013) hands this past summer. Of course not before I ok'd it with Chris (mustangpro) who agreed to get it running and mechanically sound.

A quick history on this car, 0567 was in service from 3/83 to 4/85 in both Hanford and Los Banos. After being auctioned off wearing a shade of yellow, it made its way to CO then Memphis where Greg kept her safe for 7 years.

Here she is, packed with parts, loaded up in Memphis and headed to North Carolina

Beginning with the engine, at some point in 0567's life, it received a heart transplant from what appears to be a 70's era truck. Valve covers, air intake and a few other dress-up parts from 0567 were reused. After changing the oil, fuel pump and giving it some fresh gas, it fired right up after its 6 year hibernation!

Since the engine was healthy, It was decided that correct 1982 HO parts would be used to give 0567 a nice original look under the hood. I was able to get an original intake and carb from an '82 GT, as well as a new timing cover, fuel lines, water pump, and tune up items. Aside from the blue paint that made it onto everything, the more Chris dug into the motor, the more previously hidden gems began to appear. Missing bellhousing bolts, stacks of washers shimming up the hack-sawed accessory brackets. Home Depot pipe for an oil return line, DIY battery tray, passenger side of the engine not bolted down(!), and the list goes on.

More on the mechanicals after a peak inside the 0567. The owner previous to Greg understood what the car was and did his best to return it to CHP livery inside and out. Liberties were obviously taken however, I'm just thankful 0567made it this far and Greg was able to keep it safe.

The unicorn interior! French Vanilla pieces collected from a number of Mustangs and Capri's patiently waiting to be installed. The carpet, headliner and package tray will need to be replaced and the dash pad and a few panels need to be dyed. The finished product will look great and have just the right amount of patina.

0567 Came to me with 2 correct and 2 incorrect wheels (5" vs 5.5" wide) not to mention huge tires in the rear and small up front. Here is a picture of 0567 wearing the correct sized, freshly blasted and painted wheels as well as the correct size BFG's and topped off with correct hub caps. Two of the caps are actually off an '84 TX DPS SSP!

Thumbs up Long overdue progress

I need the "Like" button for each progress photo and information. Great work, you two. Many thanks for taking her under your wing. I never stopped grabbing something for her if I ran across something that could be used. Hence, packed up with plenty parts. Making me proud of what she's becoming.

Bingo! A well worn set that I scored out of an 82gt actually. Mustangpro thought they were stinking up his shop so he threw them in the CHP.
