eBay seller fees on cars!
New Pricing Starts on Tuesday September 2, 2008
Dear eBay User, We know most sellers would rather pay nothing upfront - and only pay for a successful listing fee. We also know they favor our flat fees over a percentage based structure. Now we've put it all together. Here's how it works. No Insertion Fee on Your First 4 Vehicles... eBay Motors is eliminating Insertion Fees on the first four vehicles you list in a 12 month period. Starting with the fifth vehicle, the fee is $20 (50% less than it was under the old plan). And after 12 months, you go back to "first four" pricing. Only pay if you are successful... If you are successful, a $125 Successful Listing Fee is charged. In short, we only succeed when you succeed. Reason for the new pricing Extensive tests earlier this year showed sellers greatly prefer this fee structure. And they proved it by listing more vehicles. Clearly, a more active market means more buyers and more successful listings. To find out more... And start planning your next vehicle sale; see all the new pricing details here. Thank you for listing your vehicle with eBay Motors. We look forward to your continued success. This should be fun for those that are selling for low $$$...

don't you love how they pretend they are doing you a big favor. then wack you for 125.00 if it sells.
reminds me of the GGG that trys to make you think he is "benefiting the hobby" as he makes a 2000 percent profit on a 30.00 part.

Depending on the value of the car, $125 is not much for the amount of exposure Ebay gives you, IMO.

Ebay revenues are down so they need to make a change. Watched Ebay lately? Very little is selling and it gets expensive to list and relist cars at $40.00-$50.00 a clip.
This is a good move on Ebay's part. It will encourage sellers to list more cars for sale with the lower listing fee and that's what it is all about. The $125 sale fee drops to $100 after 4 successful sales and you get your 1st 4 listing fee's FREE! Ultimately Ebay gets MORE money if the car sells since the total revenue from a car sale will go up $20.00 at a minimum for each sucessful sale. I am sure their goal is that an increase in the number of car listings and therefore total new listing fee revenues will offset the loss of revenue on each individual listing fee when compared to the old fee struction. The computer storage required for more listings costs Ebay virtually nothing so why not fill up the system with listings? Ultimately I believe Ebay will make more money with this fee structure. It is also good for sellers of cars since Ebay is STILL the best bang for the buck by far when it comes to advertising a car quick to a HUGE customer base. |

I am positive Ebay is doing it to make more money. To bad they are the only game in town. Kinda like being the only gas station for 200 miles.....just name your price.....but remember its all to make things better for you....the customer.
