I agree, Mike. If he did sooo much research, then go with the correct equipment.

I've seen photos of one at a CHP event twice, now. The first one was one of the original 12, IIRC. A Bullitt owner that was also a CHP officer took those photos. The other one, all of you have seen - the cars are parked side by side: SSP Mustang, '79 Camaro, '92 Camaro, Impala SS...that '79 doesn't have the push bar, though. Unit 8160 if the tag is original.

Thanks for posting the video, I like all pony cars. <ducking>

You are right about the engines.
I have a buddie who is still a trooper and has a PRISTINE and I Mean PRISTINE, 92 CHP B4C with the exact correct eq. down to actual decals and license plates, which was originally assigned to the Bishop, Death Valley, Ca. district. He really knows his Camaros and has the history on the
79's
When Jim said it was to be sold, I mentioned it to the trooper who tried to get CA. to buy it for the academy. No funds so it slipped by.
I still kick myself for not buying it!!!!!
I heard a story about Jay Leno wanting it, but can't verify this in any way!

Knowing what little I know about HB Halicki, I've always believed that the Camaros in The Junkman were actual CHP cars. The plate numbers don't jive, but too many details seem right on them for them to be knock offs. I don't know if they were already out of service or in service and borrowed in some way or if he just purchased that particular bunch from the state. Although the 80/81'ish time frame sort of feels like they would have been coming out of service. I believe that the Firebird was a camera car and was the only one of the bunch to have a black interior, and I think the camera was visible during a couple of shots. Similar to 1-Baker-11 in the original movie. I know that many of the older squad cars in the original appear to have been purchased from the departments intact or rebuilt exactly. Some of the newer cars were loaners called in on favors that were not supposed to be damaged. He was an amazing guy with a lot of contacts and friends and he used a lot of favors.

If it was in a gated community, they all knew this guy, and had see this car many times.
Might actually keep some bad guys out thinking a trooper lived there with just the car and color.

I do know that Ca. is more annal (if possible) than Fl. about their colors.
Geek squad had to change their VW's from white doors to be legal!

Probably upset some of the .net hard noser's, but I still run my radar (at times) when I go to shows, and that does slow down the fast driving, radar dector folks.

And the radar messes with other LE's if they are running their's at the same time. Haven't seen it do anything with LIDAR though.

This guy lives in FL, so anyone thinking he was a trooper would be mistaken. Black and tan, as you know.

It's illegal in FL to display blues, so he was in violation before Dennis Gage started playing with the incorrect strobes on the rear deck.

Not sure what you mean by ".net hard noser's", but if you want to play with your radar, who cares? I mean, driving around in an almost fully marked Camaro should do enough to slow down traffic, if you are worried about it, so what's one more thing?

1st of all, Where in my above post where did I say I was worried about anything?
Remember from previous posts of mine. I never drive around with a
FULLY MARKED or any marking showing especially to and from shows.
Now at sanctioned authorized shows, in parking lots, show areas where permitted by local pd's or escorted parades when specifically TOLD by local, state or local PD's to run lights, thats a different story.
This actually has happened at many shows I have attended, just a few, Canada from Detroit to St Thomas ford plant, 2 different times, Indiannapolis, Colo. Ripon Ca.,TX and it looks like maybe ??? the Chicago land show, which several of the .net folks might attend, will have a lights and maybe even siren parade?
I would bet if you saw me coming at you with the car BEING COMPLETELY COVERED you would and the general public, including the local L.E.O's maybe think it was just a wild color scheme. And by the way!! I didn't know, even with the research I have done, Fl. cars were Black/Tan. I really thank you for telling me as now I will have to change the color from it's Black and Creme/Yellow to black and tan. I have the correct paint code# if you are doubting me.

Perhaps Mike was thinking about this?

I think they sell Guinness in Texas... If not, maybe it was this?
