Default ISO WTB a SINGLE DIN IN DASH scanner/CB

Hello all. Looking for a used inexpensive SINGLE DIN sized CB or scanner to put where the factory radio would have been. Its more for aesthetics but if I can get it to play through the factory speakers that can work.

There are not any that are a direct fit, however….

After consulting here on the forum (and inquiring about my own SSP) it was stated some SSP’s had aftermarket period correct scanners and CB’s installed into them.

After tediously researching this site and literally hundreds of online images, some of the following are mounting locations:
- factory radio location (if discarding the radio)
- below the radio (where the factory sunglasses holder or “cubby” was located)
- installed vertically to the right side (passenger) of the center console mounted to the trans tunnel
- if the unit is small enough, some where even installed near or in the “rack” of Fleet supplied equipment.

I have seen a few images online of various SSP’s with a CB mounted vertically on the Left (driver side) of the center console - but have no way of confirming if the images are period or “after auction” and installed in such a manner by owners after the vehicle was “restored”. To me, that placement is not ideal.

Now for the scanner units that will fit into either the radio location OR below the radio in the cubby location, here’s some to review. You should be picking the model based on the time period so it looks correct. Exact measurements and pdf operator manuals, you will have to search online for as these units are all obsolete now.

eBay links provided below are merely for reference of images, model info, and future reference on this site; I have no affiliation with any of them.

The Radio Shack/Realistic Patrolman Pro-2026 is the same as the Uniden 760, just minor configuration variances of front panel. If I recall, Uniden was the vendor/supplier of some scanners and CBs to RS and those sold by RS/Realistic were really just rebranded Unidens.

CB’s - way too many to list…. What I would recommend is to search all 1980’s-90’s SSP pictures you can find on this site or elsewhere online and look at the interior images. If you see some with vintage CB’s, save the pic to your device then make the pic larger so you can either get closeup images for model # comparisons, “brand”, or so you can at least try to search on eBay for a similar unit.

You can also research any component model # online to determine approximate year the units were sold or available.

In my application, I opted for the Uniden 760 above. I sacrificed the factory cubby by cutting off 3/4 of the back side so now when looking at the front of it, it was an open hole. I then slid the Uniden through the hole from the front and it worked quite well. There’s approx 1/4” or so on either side of the unit when it’s centered and there’s really no way to see into or past the voids on the sides. It looks better than any Fleet install (LOL!) and it fits well. It really looks “factory” with no interference of the 5 speed shifter. I ran an aftermarket antenna on it and it’s powered by cig lighter adapter hidden up under the dash.
