Insulation Questions
I have removed the entire interior from my car for cleaning and I have a bunch of questions:
-The jute backing is shot on the carpet. Anyone know of where to get a suitable replacement? Can Dynamat act as a replacement? Do you guys recommend putting dynamat in regarless of the jute backing? -My headliner insulation is decent but if a better replacement is out there, or if dynamat can be used there as well, let me know. -Lastly, when the rear seat back was removed, there was insulation dividing the cabin from the trunk and this too, was mildewed. Anyone found a suitable replacement for this insulation? Thanks- |

Insulation between the seat back and the trunk? Do tell!! Mine was long gone and I've been trying to figure out what to use.
I was planning on using some sort of Dynamat on the sail panels at least since there was no insulation left. Where my OEM mat is missing at the front edge of the trunk floor behind the rear seat, I was thinking about making my own out of Dupont Kevlar bedliner. It now comes in an aerosol spray. I haven't pulled up my carpet yet. One local upholstery shop I stopped in said he just uses carpet padding for the insulation between the roof and the headliner. I saw that at Lowes and Home Depot or he said he would sell me enough to use. As an alternative, re-read this thread and see the post by mac88chp about the headliner: http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=3081. I've bought a roll, but haven't got it installed because the depression needs to be removed where the antenna mount was. That means repaint the roof. So I'll wait until I can get that done.

You can find most of what you are needing at LMR. Here is a replacement sound deadener that goes behind the rear seat. http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...Sound-Deadener

Thanks, Mike. I've been over that site many times but don't recall seeing this.
So, umm, since I don't have any reference in my own car...which side toward the seat?

If you open your trunk, you should see black plastic staring back at you.

Right now, I see tan carpet and black vinyl - the seat backs of the temporary front seats.
Thanks for the tip, I kinda figured that's how it should go.

I ordered that item from LMR 2 years ago for my 86 CSP/GSP SSP clone (mice got in through the glovebox area, shredded the owners manual and then moved onto the trunk where they used the trunk divider insulation to make a huge nest under the rear seat) and it was very well made and fit perfect. It was little bit stiffer (thicker?) than the stock piece and seemed less likely to pull apart from its own weight like the factory piece. I hate mice (red squirrels too)!
