Default Sagging Vinyl Headliner Question

My car has it's original vinyl headliner however it is sagging in places. What kind of suggestions do you have with re-installing the original upholstery on the original backer board?
Thanks

John, when I removed my headliner, the insulation crumbled and dropped everywhere, needing to be vacuumed up. Just a warning of a possible mess.

My headliner was recovered and it's sagging, so I'm going to have a local shop order the original vinyl and recover it. The backer board is still in good shape.

If your vinyl is in good enough shape, I would very carefully separate it from the backer board, clean both mating surfaces and get a can of 3M or Permatex(?) adhesive from your local parts store and mate them back together.

I have two headliners that need recovering. They charge a lot less if you remove them and drop them off. Guess I'll have to put the Camaro back in service and see if they'll fit in the back hatch area since I don't have a truck or van.

Thanks Greg. The two headliner pads fell from the underside of the roof in complete pieces. Unfortunately, they smell a little so I do not think I will be re-installing them. The vinyl is clean but shrunk a bit and has a couple of tears and blemishes from where the PO used some sort of glue in a couple areas.
Any recommendation on what to clean the backer board with and how to clean the underside of the vinyl?

I don't know

Never done that myself. I would think a light sanding on the backer board to clean it up and give it some teeth to adhere to.

Anyone else know, especially for the back of the vinyl?
