Default 9th Digit in the VIN

What are the possible characters for the 9th digit ( check digit ) in the VIN number? Is it all numbers ( 1-9 ) and all letters ( A-Z )? That's a lot of possibilities, if it is.

Donny,

It's all numbers and no letters. 0 is also included, so it's 0-9.

2 of the LSP VIN's that I just received have X as the check digit. That's why I included A-Z in my question.

No prob. Someone must have done that to try and protect the VINs for some reason.

My 93 has an "X" as the check digit, my 90 has a 3.

Rob,

I just learned something...and stand corrected. Your '90 has a check digit of 10, so they used an "X" (Donny...same for you on those LSPs). It's the only exception to the 0-9 formula above.

There's a formula used for calculating the digits...and when the formula returns 10, you get the X.

So...0-9, and X.
