I bet someone in Motor Transport could answer that question for you Andy. Maybe Robert Read?

I was thinking along the same lines myself. Meanwhile, I've been considering whom I could use to replicate the artwork so I could have new stickers made. I already have the printer in mind that I would use, but I'd like to know why these CHP cars had the stickers before going to that effort.

You might want to check to see who was the Motor Transport maintenance oil and gas supplier of that era in Sacramento. Oil suppliers sometimes have had travelers helpful hint stickers that were used in cars when their cars were serviced at Shell supplied maintenance shops. I again have to wonder if Shell was the bid winner for products and it was a service station add on sticker that was supplied back then.

Also, when did these start getting applied? My '82 CHP was missing the entire shroud. I ordered one last month and need to know what stickers if any were applied to it. I'll put it on when I get the power steering pump situation ironed out.

may be earlier cars? later cars?
may be Other SSP cars??
i agree with Jim that Robert R would know
Bill Jr.
I think with as much SHELL Gas.... that i/we buy
that Shell SHOULD re make our stickers for us.
again...I am not diplomatic in these matters. If i were
i would have my assignment card by now. Someone ...Bill...
can research it and find out the when why where of this
yeller jumper sticker mystery.

I hear ya, Andy! I plan to talk with Robert again within the week, and will ask him about the stickers.

I need to look and see if that Shell sticker is on my 82.

edit: I just went and looked. I don't have one and it does not appear as though there has ever been one applied.

Must not have been a long lived thing, no evidence of one on any '88s or '89s I've seen.

My bro-in-law is a digital retoucher and is well known for his ability to restore/refurbish photos for large ad campaigns. I could probably pull a favor to have the sticker recreated as a digital file that could be printed. Just need some good quality/high res photos to work with. LMK if you guys would like me to inquire.

The $1,700 1986 CHP that sold out of Portland recently had a Shell Oil jump start sticker on the fan shroud.
