Default CHP Color/Paint for 1985

I am having a bit of a debate with myself about how to repaint my car. It is going to be my occasional driver as well as my show car. First I want to know if CHP ever used solid color cars in the mid 80's and if so what color where those. Secod, if the first is a no, should I paint the car all Black, all White, or Black with a white roof. I am planing on placing all equipment in the car, as if back in service.

I'm trying to avoid the white doors because local PDs here are all going to B/W and since this car I will be driving a lot and with the kids I want to avoid all the attention from PD. I will not have any decals on the car either.

No solid colored cars until the all-white SMPVs of the early '90s. However, a number of '85 SSPs were converted into the first SMPVs and they were painted various colors with white doors. Here's a silver one:

Totally rare cars, even in their day. Nobody has done one of these yet, that would be an awesome show piece Marcos.

Otherwise, I'd vote for a black with white roof car. That's how the CHP retired them long ago and a number of them (including mine) were released that way even after they started doing complete repaints. No mistaking what it was/is in that scheme

They tried to make the SMPVs as civilian looking as possible in rearview mirrors. If you look closely you'll see that they even added dealer plate frames! As to why they added 10-holes...sure the black steelies just screamed "cop!" but from the side view there's little to disguise those decaled white doors.

It would be nice to do a rare car but that would take away from its rarity. Plus I can't force myself to put 10 holes on a four eye, change the vehicle's color from the door tag, put a long and ugly radio antenna on the car, cover up the quarter panel antenna hole; which is an eye catcher, put 5" spots, and finally paint the front rear bumper covers two tone.

Just want to keep it some what CHP looking without attracting too much attention.

I think you just answered your own question. My answer may not be right for you, because my ideas on restoration are not going to be aligned 100% with yours. Just define your wants/needs for the car once it is finished, and then work towards that goal [/Capt. Obvious]

I know that my 4-eye was changed over to 10-holes because a previous owner upgraded the brakes and the steelies wouldn't clear.
