Default Is This a Lestek Alternator?

Pictured below is the alternator I just removed from my 1990 FHP car. The alternator is externally regulated and for all purposes is a GM Delco Remy (DR) alternator without any DR markings. The harnes to the alternator looks original and not modified. The mounting brackets look original with no modifications. This alternator uses a GM type plug with 2 terminals and the 1 power output connection. There is also a ground connection on the back of the alternator. There is only one stamping on this alternator. That stamp is on the plate that is riveted to the alternator case and that number is 14665.

The case is EXACTLY the same case used by GM up until about 1970 when they went to internally regulated alternators for all vehciles with the exception that the case has a machined area below the small bolt mounting tab which is where DR put their numbers. This machined area looks original and not something added later. I just went the the parts store and the alternator the computer AND hard cover books call for is the standard Ford Alternator.

Since I cannot find any information on this particular alternator and I remember everyone talking about a "Lestek" alternator I thought I would post here and get the real answer.

I will try to have this alternator rebuilt. Any input as to if this is a Lestek or if not what type of alternator this really may be is appreciated.

Mike,

It sure looks like one to me (minus the Lestek nameplate...where the 2 rivots are). Here is a pic from one of the Mustang books, my alt is buried out in storage:

As a point of note. I looked in my GM alternator pile. A mid 60's 61 amp GM alternator has the same case and will bolt up and work in place of the Lestek. Not near the amperage output however there are kits out there to upgrade the old externally regulated GM alternators to high amp units. That would be a great alternative if you need a Lestek and cannot find one.

Disregard my last post.

I just returned from the garage and an early GM Delco WILL NOT bolt up to the car and replace the Lestek. Almost but not quite.

The lower mount where the big bolt hole goes through the bottom mount is larger AND the mount itself is cast about 1/4 inch lower.

Sorry for the mis-information. It sounded good until I actually tried it!

The Lestek is unique!

You are certainly welcome.

Is the bracket the same as on a stock 5.0?
