Default Hi from AZ!

I sure didn't think I would be joining another site but I bit down on the hook, line and sinker and got reeled in! I just started looking at both sites in the last week after stumbling across this 87 AZ ssp. The story goes like this;
A friend of mine who buys mustangs and parts them out for extra cash called me and told me of 4 5.0 mustangs he bought out of someones back yard. one of them was different, it had no radio, power windows or locks. He thought it was a factory notchback competition prep. I told him I would come check it out. I looked the car over and knew it was a SSP, it was something special. I knew all he wanted to do was part it out so I bought it and saved it from certain doom. Once the car was safe at home another friend told me to check out this site. Although I know about the ssp's I am not familiar with the details. Back in "the days" I was a Ford mechanic and worked on several CHP mustangs that patroled highway 395 in southern CA.
Here is what I know and don't know about my 87. It is originally a regatta blue 5.0 AOD ssp coupe, all original drivetrain. Both buck tags on the core support (DSO 75-0092 ARIZONA) calibrated speedo, remote trunk release. It left service sometime early in this decade, I found some repair receipts in the car from 2003 from the guy who bought it. It had some brackets above the rear view mirror that appear to have held emergency lights, there is a clip on the dash for a mic, the glovebox has been cut out to fit some radio or light/siren control, there is red and blue lights mounted under the decklid and the antennae is still on the decklid. There is added wires all over the car that was apparently used for police equipment that has been cut, I think when they removed the equipment prior to auction. Sometime in its career it was painted white. The car has a few dents but the body is totally rust free! The interior is not bad but needs a few things to make it nice. someone robbed the catalytic converters off it but I found another set and will bolt it on later.
I have checked with the department of public safety and they have no record of this car. I have also spoken with a few older officers and they do not recall any blue automatic service cars. I guess this one could have been a federal car, DEA or INS? The carfax told me nothing about who it originally went to. My next step is to pray for a build sheet when I take the interior apart for cleaning.
So here I am, a member of another great site. This is a great place to hang out and feed my ssp need! Thank you for your enthusiasm and dedication to these fun cars. I look forward to chatting with everyone!
Rob

Here is the latest ssp find.

Smile Welcome

Welcome Rob, and thanks for having the foresight to save this rare car. I own a Nevada Highway Patrol Mustang and a CHP (unit 1555) mustang. What are your plans with this car? I hope you will restore it and enjoy it like the rest of us SSP addicts. Once again, WELCOME.

+1, Welcome to the site and glad to see another one being saved.

Good luck with your search on where the car served....definitely part of the fun with these cars. My vote is that it saw service with a local agency at some point; Federal cars were DSO 83 and ordered via GSA.

Welcome, Rob. Let the fun begin. I just came over here from .org and was immediately helped with tidbits of info about my 1982 California Highway Patrol Mustang. Both are great sites full of great members willing to help your addiction. Great job on saving that car. The research on these cars is half the fun!! Best of luck.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I plan on restoring this one to in service condition. I think I have found the original type of emergency lights. I found a guy that deals with surplus emergency equipment and is going to try and find me some equipment from 87. As far as any new news on history, that remains to be discovered. I hope to pay a visit to DMV this week.
