First place you want to look is in this area above the door label:
They were written with a black paint pen. It may have been painted over but should still be visible in relief. My car also had the number marked on the backsides of the upper and lower rear seat cushions with a regular marking pen. |

The CHP number for 1988 posted up by Mike C. in this thread was confirmed with documents directly from CHP's order from that year.

You have the very first 88 Saleen SSP. There were 14 in consecutive order, from 172217 through 172230.

88-0312 was the first one built, it had the highest vin # of the group. Mine 88-0313 was the second one built of the group, and it has the lowest vin. 88-0312 I think lead a hard life and is currently MIA. 88-0313 is a 50,000 mile original car that is dead stock. Maybe some day I will do some bolt on's.

88-0312 was the first one built by Saleen, not Ford. I was merely saying that 88-0313 was the first VIN in the group of those 14 Saleen coupes.

That's correct, the same thing I said, mine has the lowest ford VIN of the Saleen coupes. I was aware of this when I bought the car.
