There is, but some of what's been posted up on other sites is inaccurate.

The CHP number for 1988 posted up by Mike C. in this thread was confirmed with documents directly from CHP's order from that year.

You have the very first 88 Saleen SSP. There were 14 in consecutive order, from 172217 through 172230.

88-0312 was the first one built, it had the highest vin # of the group. Mine 88-0313 was the second one built of the group, and it has the lowest vin. 88-0312 I think lead a hard life and is currently MIA. 88-0313 is a 50,000 mile original car that is dead stock. Maybe some day I will do some bolt on's.

88-0312 was the first one built by Saleen, not Ford. I was merely saying that 88-0313 was the first VIN in the group of those 14 Saleen coupes.

That's correct, the same thing I said, mine has the lowest ford VIN of the Saleen coupes. I was aware of this when I bought the car.
