Good deal on the hub caps. Mine appear to have had the black accent, so I'm thinking about having them re-chromed somewhere local.

When Ron bought my car, it had completely different wheels on it. He sourced these from a Fairmont at a salvage yard.

These '82s are definitely hard to find parts for. Some are almost impossible. Best of luck with your restoration. Better get started before those parts are completely gone.

The Pinto caps have the black paint; the correct ones are made from completely different metal.

Hey Brian! The 82's come up for sale every now & then. Just keep an eye out at the usual locations and you should be able to find one eventually.

Yeah, I knew about that, the difference in appearance. But I had forgot about the different metal. I don't think anyone will know the difference if I get these re-chromed without getting their hands on them. If they do that, they're way too close to my car.

It will all come down to price - if I can find some originals versus the cost of re-chroming the ones I have.

I found an NOS set on eBay for $20.

If you did a brushed finish, it might be close. Chrome would definitely be way off.

I'm just going by what I see, Mike. Most every photo of an '82 CHP in service that I've gathered off the net looks like the car is wearing chrome hub caps.

Just trying to help you, Greg. I have the caps here in front of me, and I posted a comparison at the link that MustangKid referenced. At one time, I thought the Pinto ones were correct. Once I got the PN, and my hands on some, I realized the difference. The two aren't even close.

Oh, I know. Just saying that they sure look chrome in most all of the in-service photos I've found. You've got them in-hand, so I can't argue.

We've already discovered two different shades of tan for the package trays. Is it not possible that some '82s got different hub caps?

Since what came on my car when I bought it are the Pinto hubcaps, that's what I've got to go with for now. If I could replicate the appropriate finish, that would be fine with me.

I'll be on the look out for the correct ones and will appreciate any leads.

here is an NOS pinto cap if anyone wants it. I have a set of four of these and will be carefully bead blasting the black off and creating a satin finish. Might ruin them but I am not using them with the black paint on them.
