Default Replacement Headlight Switch

Hey guys, my headlight switch took a dump on me today, it now refuses to move into the off position. A quick check of the usual Mustang parts outlets (LMR, CJs, NPD, etc.) shows aftermarket units are running about $30-70, with the best online OEM price I found of $135. My question is does anyone have any experience with the aftermarket units with regards to the quality/reliability or am I better off biting the bullet and getting OEM? Also good vendor for purchase? Thanks for any input!

Mike,

I bought an aftermarket switch for the other side (defroster and hazards) and there was no difference that I discerned. PS I found an AC shop that had freon and they recharged my AC. Works great but the service was 200 bucks (ouch)
See you in Sac

I found a headlight switch set off of a 92 mustang at pick n pull in Portland, it was in great shape. $10.00
I always stop at the pick n pulls on 99 on my way home from Ripon.
I usually find some good stuff, odds and ends. They always have a few fox bodies there.

John T my AC still doesn't work ouch LOL

Great to hear John. Did the shop that serviced your A/C replace all the "O" ring? I hear that's what it takes to prevent the system from leaking down.

For sure see you on the 26th!

There are only two wrecking yards in my whole county and neither has any appropriate foxes. P 'n P lots in the valley are chock full of them but the closest to me is in the South Bay over 100 miles away (switch priced at $15 + lot entry fee). Checked Craigslist with no luck. Need the new unit in before Retiree's Day so looks like I'll have to order an aftermarket (Chinese) one for now.

Thanks for the input all!

Found a used OEM part that will reach me in time. Thanks for the referral, with Fox bodies so scarce locally, I'll save it for future use!

Mike,

Surprisingly a check for leaks proved negative (amazing considering the age of the car) and he simply recharged it. The cost of freon was 80 bucks a pound but it takes only two pounds. Since it's a sealed system it should be good for the foreseeable future. It was cheaper than the conversion which was quoted by another shop at $700 !

My mechanic here told me the same thing John, he said you don't need to replace seals unless they are bad.

I was going to try it. But now that you say it works fine, I'll have to take mine in to have it charged.
Thanks !
