Default Possible 86 ssp shortblock ( not mine )

Here it is for those who may want an original ssp shortblock.

There is no way to differentiate that from a "non SSP" 5.0 shortblock they are both the same.

Mechanically they're the same but all blocks have a partial VIN stamped on them, so they can be matched to one specific car. If you know the VIN was from an SSP, you know the block was from an SSP.

You are correct, but my point was that there is no specific (different) block for the SSP (except for the VIN). That's like a hatchback block being different than a coupe block, other than the VIN.

It all makes sense. It would be a good deal for the person who has that car if it didn't get recycled. And if they care I guess. If it came outta my car , I'd be on it! It would go back in it.

Is that what you were getting at with the VIN part or am I still missing it?

There's a common misconception that the Fox body cars didn't have VINs stamped into the blocks. I think that's what they were getting at.

You can't tell an SSP car by VIN alone, and you can tell an original engine by partial VIN.
