Default CHP Radar Units

Now that I am sure my 1993 CHP Mustang had a radar unit in it does anyone know what unit would have most likely been used in the car?

It would most likely have been one of these:

This is an in-service shot of a '90.

I have more pictures of this type unit somewhere, they are of the one in the '90 that's currently owned by a guy (Louis D.) in NJ...I'll have to find them. I can't help you on ID'ing it, try the guys at copcar.com or Geoff Fors at his CHP radio history site.

That is a Kustom Trooper Radar.

I found it...it's a Kustom Hawk K-band Moving/Stationary Dual Antenna Radar:

I don't see a rear antenna mounted in the rear shot of the '90:

But on a '93, about the only place it could be mounted is atop the deck light stack:

My mistake. It is close to a trooper model.

Actually, as pointed out elsewhere, early CHP radar was not standardized. It was purchased by the individual counties that wanted the patrol to utilize it in their area and not by the state so besides the Hawk, the Kustom KR-10 and Trooper models, as well as the MPH K-55 could also have been used. Looks like you have a lot of choices Chris or check with your CHP contact and see if he remembers which one they had in your car.

Here's one on the rear deck of an '89...it looks like the longer, earlier Kustom antennna. I'd think you'd be OK with any KR-10, KR-10SP, Trooper, etc.

Mike,

Do you have any other shots that we haven't seen before?

I'd like to add this to the CHP Resto doc if it's ok with you.

Mike,

I can just use the ones posted here. When did you add those newer ones?
