1988 Ford Mustang SSP CHP 5.0 LX, Vin#1FABP40E7JF221400
5-speed Manual - Bolt-in Roll Cage -- Street & Race

1988 SSP CHP 5.0 MUSTANG WITH ROLL CAGE
From 1982 to 1993, Ford produced the Mustang Special Service Package SSP specifically to meet the needs of law enforcement. The customized 5.0 Mustang included special options not available to the public. A speedier alternative to traditional police sedans, it was used for patrol and pursuit. Most remaining Mustang SSPs are restored by collectors or enjoyed by racers.

This 1988 Mustang SSP includes these SSP features:

Original DMV/CHP Registration (shows that car is a bona fide CHP vehicle)
Original Ford buck-tag metal-plates on radiator support (again, bona fide CHP)
Certified calibrated 140-MPH speedometer (because it’s fast)
Engine oil cooler (for durability with high-RPM usage)
Reinforced floor pans (secure base for potential racing seats)
Black dial-phone style wheels (because cop cars have black wheels)
Manual courtesy lights (for stealthiness)
Trunk-lid release located under steering column (for quick-access to road flares)
Full size spare tire (because space savers are lame)
Single key locking doors/trunk (so you only need one key)
This car was put into service by the California Highway Patrol in April of 1988. In 1990, its first private owner installed the roll cage and prepared it to race in SCCA Showroom Stock class. As the second private owner, I’ve enjoyed its versatility. While being street-legal, this has also been a perfect car for Mustang Club open tracks and SCCA racing. It’s fun to drive, low maintenance, and easy to work on. After garaging it for 10 years, I spruced it up this year with new paint and tires. It’s been a great car, but it’s time to pass it on to someone else to enjoy.
