CHP Micor on Ebay
Complete setup, with a very nice Micor head (one of the nicest I've ever seen). Good luck to Litsnsiren (it'd look good in that '82 CHP).

I just cannot figure out the "I have to be first" mindset that people have with these ebay auctions. The radio setup is over 400.00 and it still has 4 days left. What can possibly be gained by continuing to bid. Of course in this auction we have bidder number 4 who bids in small increments to run up the price on bidder 1. Then bidder number 1 has to "be first" so he puts in another bid.......which then allows bidder number 4 to keep on jacking it up.
simply amazing. ... and at this rate this radio will sell for over 500.00. pretty amazing considering the hardest parts (CC1 and MPA2 amp) are not included.....

Personally, I try to wait until the end of the auction before bidding, but it's certainly easy to get caught up, for whatever reason, and end up paying way too much for something you really want/need. I didn't pay anywhere near that much for my Micor setup, which is the one pictured in the CHP resto doc, with all of the CHP tags still attached. I have a few more setups on the way (eventually) which will be offered to the members here at REASONABLE prices for everything (including the CC1, amps, and all-important cables). The only thing I won't have with these radios is the correct microphones. IMHO, It shouldn't cost $1000 to put the proper equipment back into one of these cars.

You will see allot of these (or similar) listed soon! People that sell used two/way are
looking at this auction and scratching their heads! remember how long it took the escort caps to appear! |

Any one auction can get out of hand when several people begin bidding against each other....I've seen it at the car auctions I used to attend regularly, as well as the Ebay venue. Heck...at some of the FL DOT auctions I was at, I saw people bid against themselves when no one else was even "in" on the bidding. Auctioneer, "$4200....do I hear $4300?", Bidder who had the car ar $4200 raises his hand and now the price is $4300, etc. Those auctions were free-for-alls anyway, but I guess people get caught up in the excitement or fun (or ego) or whatever.
If you think about the market for this stuff....it's guys like us. Either collectors of vintage radio equipment, or guys who need it for their restorations of old police cars. Either way, it's still out there, and can still be had for more reasonable prices than what that setup on Ebay is currently at. I'm not sure who, besides Jason (litsnsirn) is bidding, but I'm telling you guys....give me a little while and I'll make sure you guys get the right stuff a heckuva lot cheaper than that.

They are the Federal Signal control for the lights and siren (CC1 is the controller, MPA2 is the amplifier). Check out the CHP Restoration section (via the link on the main page) for pics of both of those.
