Default 1979 CHP Camaro

Well, I am taking the 1979 CHP Camaro back to the Academy tomorrow morning. ( 3-4 ).
I did a bunch of work on it for the CHP museum.
It is a clone, there is only 1 original Camaro left ( restored ) in existance from the original 12 CHP purchased.
That camaro which originally was restored by Darryl Lindsey, ( runs the Ripon police Car Show ) is owned by someone in Sacramento, Ca.

It appears at car shows down there once in a while.

Just thought you guys might like to see a couple pics of it.

You won't hear me say this often, but that is a great looking Camaro.

Thanks. The academy museum loved the repairs and clean up job on it.
The Sgt. has been wanting to drive this car for a long time. She couldn't wait to hop in it.
We took it out to the EVOC track. They had cadets on the track, so we returned to the hanger with it.

No interior pictures, you really wouldn't want to see that LOLOL
The real ones were tan ( camel ) color inside. This one is black. And not really stock LOL
They did install a shotgun rack, not sure it is correct, but it's in there and the correct radio head and federal siren - light control.

This car was actually used as a P.R. tool. An officer would drive it at drag race tracks. Teenagers or anyone could sign up to race the officer.
Of course they would get some info on why not to drag race on the streets.

After the race, each entrant would get a yellow " get out of jail free " card signed by the officer they raced.

There is a 3 page story on the car in I think it's the Sept. 1999 issue of the California Highway Patrolman magazine.

Lots of thumbs up towing it down there LOL

Interesting story, John, of how they used it at the tracks. I can imagine it got lot's of looks when towing it.

NOW you post those pictures ! LOLOL
I could have used those a coouple months ago !!

Darryl sent me a copy of an exterior photo that showed the rear deck light bracket. I had to make one to put correct rear deck lights on this car.

YES That is the ONLY authentic 1979 CHP Camaro left in existance from the original 12 CHP purchased.
It has been sold 2 times and is in Sacramento now. The owner belongs to a camaro club there.

I have yet to make contact with him.
