Just looked through some paperwork.

I've only seen 82 and 87 plate ranges so far.

But, # of cars for years:

1982:400 coupes (E870201-E870600)
1984:250
1985:155 (50%Charcoal interior, 50% Buckskin(tan))
1986:169
1987:175
1988:260
1989:210
1990:275
1991:230
1992:228
1993:150

Nice work! Have you and Aaron connected yet on the CA smog information?

Yeah, he said that he had done all of the E88 and E89 plates from '92 and '93 but his PC that they were on crashed.

I am bumping this thread, after updating the first post. Does anyone have any information to confirm/expand the information we have presently? I would like to pin down the plate range for the 1991 CHP Mustangs. We have dozens of likely VINs from that year pinned down through the California Smog Site, but we do not know the E-plate range(s) to use in order to find any matches.

In terms of the 1991 CHPs, 1JerryL once owned one that was unit #8990. Do we know with certainty what the E-plate would have been for this unit? (Exx8990) We could start randomly searching the CA Smog Site if we knew where to start.

I think the best hope is to find some in-service photos for the 1991 model year.

I've got a couple that I've had for a while that I marked as '91's but can't remember how I concluded that. Most often I put the plate into the BAR Smog query and recorded the VIN on the description (back when you could do this) but no VINs are present on these.

Thanks Mike. We have two problems impeding our efforts. As you alluded to, time is not on our side because much of the info is no longer listed. The other issue is the orders for 1991. Unlike other years, there wasn't a single big order produced by Ford in 1991. It looks like there may have been several DSOs with smaller batches, so the e-plates may not be grouped together either.
