The owner of that CHP Crown Vic is a member of several other copcar/LE forums in the US and yes, he has to cover his decals and lightbar when he's on the road in France.

Well, in France we have to cover the marking signs only if the word P O L I C E is present (same word in french). But we are allowed to drive with word HIGHWAY PATROL or TROOPER not covered. Because the translation in french is PATROUILLE AUTOROUTE. No word for Trooper (?). The light bar bar must be covered when the car is moving on public road.

For the DSO question, some cars are with import DSO's and some others with US DSO's. It does'n matter. We've 2 kinds of titles; the regular for homologated cars (import or local product), and the collector title for vintages and non homologated cars, like US cars non officially imported. With the collector title we have some restrictions for driving. (is my english/american correct enough ?)

Some precisions:
in France we 've 3 kinds of Police. 1) Police Municipale, what I translate nearly by "city Police" or "Local Police". Under the orders of the major. Do you recognize the car ? 2) Police Nationale, what I translate nearly by "Federal Police", witch cover the whole territory, but rarely the roads and neither the small cities. 3) Gendarmerie, what I translate nearly by "Sheriff" or "State Trooper", to watch roads and country zones. Subaru Imprezza.
