Default FL & MI SSP's @ Mustang Memories

Hello,

The good news...I attended the 20th anniversary Mustang Memories car show in Livonia, MI (Detroit) today. The local club I below hosts this event. We had about 450 cars today including my 1992 FHP #1164 as well as a 1992 Michigan State Trooper SSP owned by another club member. We both brought home best in class trophies. Thought I'd share a photo I took of the two cars.

The bad news...it rained sporadically during the show and when I removed the "state trooper" mangetic fender emblems I found on my passenger side the magnet has now left behind almost a pattern on my nice paint job. Not sure how else to explain this but I'm hoping others have had this happen and would have suggestions? The "pattern" won't come off the paint with water and elbow grease so am going to need to try something else.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Nice pic!

Sorry to hear about the scratches. I'd try a light-abrasive cleaner wax (ie. Meguiars) first, but you may have to go with something a little more agressive if it doesn't come out.

Let us know how it comes out...

+1 on the pic. Magnets have a way of leaving marks on black (or dark) paint. It usually has to be machine polished.

I've had paint clouding on my car under the magnetic covers when they have been on in very hot weather. I was able to hand polish it out using 3M Fine Scratch Remover...nothing less agressive worked.

I used a Meguire's polishing / swirl removing product on the car today and with a little elbow grease....success! Thanks again for all the ideas.

I have had success with magnetic stickers by making sure that the magnet was NOT completely surrounding the sticker so there gaps that would allow air to circulate under the sticker. Also I have put some thin tape over the magnet surface that contacts the car. The magnet still sticks however there is little or not marks left in the paint. Try NOT to have a solid magnet under the sticker covering the complete underside of the sticker. This really attracks the sun/heat and causes the problem you experienced.

You will not be able to drive down the road with the magnets attached this way as they will fly off much easier however it will help to prevent the paint issues you have experienced.
