Default Ebay: 5.0 Rev Limiter

Anything special about this? Are they rare? Did all SSPs come with them?

nothing special about it although I have seen it installed on an SSP car in the past. it isn't something Ford built the cars with for sure. Unless I had some sort of doc from the agency where it showed it being installed I wouldn't want one on my car. I seem to remember that one being forsale for some time now.

If it's a Mallory ignition system component, that would not have been a Ford item at all. That I think was an aftermarket rev limiter to help avoid a problem with over-revving the engine and blowing a rod when these cars were shifting. I've not seen one of these in years but it's not anything special like Jim said. Current vehicles have this programmed into their computer control modules now so that there is a limit to the damage people can do with currently marketed vehicles if they hit the throttle with no engine loading.

My 84 OSP has one mounted on it. I unhooked wires but left it mounted, the bracket for it was made out of part of a Yield road sign and mounted on top of the Ignition Module. Have seen 2 other OSP cars, both 85's with them mounted on the pass. side strut tower. Guessing Motor Pool installed them to prevent engine damage. 5400 limit and dated 2/84 on my car and 4/85 on the second 85 OSP in a wrecking yard couple years ago.

Interesting. It would be a good item for a correct resto (if someones OSP car had it like yours).

Neither one of my OSP cars have them and I don't see any extra holes where they would have been mounted. They also are not listed on the paperwork I have showing where all the emergency equipment was put in the car. I would be suprised if motor pool put them in but you never know. somebody may have blown up a car and the local troop commander decided it would be a good idea??

My 84 they used the upper two Ign. module screws to mount it so no extra holes were drilled to mount it. I was guessing on Motor Pool install due to the fact that car was pretty un-molested when I got it - except for the 80's style white-out auction repaint and wheels. May have been installed on OSP Field Office requests as needed ?? Hard to tell but with bracket made out of old road sign and lack of other mods done to car made me lean towards Motor Pool install.

FYI My Nevada 1985 has this exact unit still installed from Nevada Highway Patrol and it still works perfect. The rev limiter was installed by Nevada to eliminate over reving the engine and blowing it up. Sam I dont know how many other agencys used them. 8336 did not have one installed from the CHP.

I would be willing to bet that somebody blew one up so they put them in the cars to keep it from happening again.....
