That's interesting......since you have the special parts list, showing the number of cars ordered, we'd expect to see at least that many in the consecutive VIN list. The other confirmed OR cars are in a batch of 20, so there's a extra few mixed in there somewhere.

An example....my list shows an order of 6 for the '83 CSP cars. The consecutive VIN list shows the 6 in a group of 76 coupes. We know from the list, the agency, and the pics that 6 is the number for CSP that year. Stew Jones' info puts the car, as optioned, as 1 of 12. So, the other coupes right after these were probably some other color combination, and the cars on either end, or between orders, could have been randomly produced regular production in succession.

Hate to hijack this thread but also have a factory 'weighing card' with my car's VIN on it and hand written on the back it says "Keys to State Tempo 9058 fit this car". Any chance the batch order of 29 included some Tempos or other makes ?? or possible some Washington State SSP's ?? Has anyone else ever found these cards for their SSP's ?

Cool pics, great documentation. No chance whatsoever that Tempos were mixed in. As for the keys, many keys fit other cars (randomly). My last car on mids (an '01 CVPI) also fit my Sgt.'s car (an '02 CVPI). We all used to run around trying keys in different cars, especially since the newer guys were locking themselves out of their cars. I did the old, "depress PA, turn siren to wail, shove mic between drivers seat and door" so that when he went to get in, the siren started blaring.

He appreciated the prank.

WA State had 25 ordered in 84 - so likely not part of the package run with Oregon (Although it could make sense). Wonder if the extra cars were bought by other state/local agencies?

We think our 88 PCSD cars were ordered at the same time as the WSP fleet order - could be possible. Although, 84 was still new to the SSP package, and my guess is that most local agencies probably hadn't jumped on the SSP bandwagon quite yet.

I wouldn't say they were "extra cars"....all that the new VIN lists will show is consecutively numbered units. So, for example, if agency X ordered 10 cars, and the list shows 12, the "extra" 2 could be random, regular production coupes on either end of the order (first 2, last 2, or 1 and 1), or an order that was made for 2 cars (beginning or end) that was consecutive with the other order.

I keep hearing about the "piggybacking" of orders, but it really doesn't seem like that could happen. The county paid for their cars; the state paid for theirs. It would have been a nightmare to somehow commingle the two. You can check out the VINs, though, once I get them all posted and linked.
