I do not own a SSP but.......... I am a OLD time SSP son ................... I have noticed that my dad is one of the longest SSP owners around. My dad bought his 1985 CHP from the Califorina Highway Patrol on 9-1-1987. I was born on 4-24-1994 and I was brought home in the back seat of that car from Petaluma Valley Hospital in Petaluma Ca on 4-28-1994 as a newborn baby. The car is a big part of my life and I still love the car every time I walk by it 16 years later. My dads best friend Mitch Sterling loved my dads CHP car so much that Mitch wanted to order a 5.0 coupe .My dad went to Hansel Ford here in Santa Rosa Ca and helped his friend Mitch Sterling order a 1988 civilian 5.0 coupe . Mitch has then passed due to cancer so my dad bought the car from Mitchs estate back in 2000. The car is now being sold to me. We are a 5.0 Family with a 1985 CHP, 1985 5.0 GT, 1988 5.0 Coupe, 1993 2.3 Coupe.

^^^^Cool story^^^^ I plan on handing down my SSP to my son (12) when I pass on as well. He may be my age (40) by then but I think he will have more appreciation for it by then.

Personally I love Notch-backs and like the history of SSP Mustangs. I believe in 20 years, our SSP's will be much more valuable than regular civilian Coupes. So, that is a big reason to hang on to them and keep them as close to stock as possible.

I've loved Mustangs since I was a kid. When I was 17 in 1991 my parents bought a new 1991 Mustang GT for my mom to drive. I was the envy of all my buddies because my mom had a 5.0! I took my High School girlfriend (now my wife) to prom in that car. My mom was a stay at home mom so the car didn't accumulate very many miles. I lusted after that GT ever since they bought it and in 2001 my parents sold it to me for $3500. The GT now has 55,000 miles, it runs, drives and looks showroom new! My parents didn't let me drive the car much when I was a teenager (good choice on their part). But one night when they did let me take it out I used it to outrun a Missouri State Trooper who was driving a square box Caprice. Looking back at that now....wow that was dumb!!

I got interested in SSP's when I was about 20 and I got stopped by a Missouri Trooper for speeding, he was driving a blue 1993 Mustang. (I had my 1991 240SX and I didn't try and outrun him!) I sat in his car while he wrote me for 66 in a 55. I'm sure he was ready to boot me out after I asked him countless questions about his car! About two years later I ended up entering the police academy and the town the academy was in (Cottleville MO) had a 1993 Mustang that was a former MO Patrol car. They brought it to the academy to show it off and then I was really hooked, I wanted an SSP. I really wanted a white 1989 Missouri Mustang but they only bought 5 white ones in '89. I finally came across my white 89 in February 2005 when Jim Young put a posting on the SSP site about a guy in St. Louis who had several SSP's for sale, including a white 89. After reading that posting I immediately called the guy and I owned the car 3 days later. I ended up buying Cottleville's SSP in 2007, they sold it to me fully marked with all the equipment. I didn't need it but I really wanted it! If I didn't already have my 89 SSP that I love so much I would have kept that car. I kind of regret selling it since it was the car that really hooked me on SSP's but now Mike Patterson owns it and it looks really great!

So that's my story! Someday I intend to pass my 91 GT to my son and I've kicked around selling my 89 SSP since I rarely drive it. But hopefully I'll hang on to the SSP because I'd really like to see it donated back to the Highway Patrol. I've put way to much work into it for someone else to F it up!

These are great stories...I really enjoy reading all of them.

Eric -Pretty neat you & your wife took the GT to the High School Prom and I'm surprised that Trooper didn't give you a verbal warning just to get you out of his SSP.

+1. Have enjoyed all of the stories thus far.

In the interest of full disclosure....I drove a ' 92 in-service when I transferred to narcotics in '97. It was a white traffic unit that the city repainted blue when it came out of the traffic unit. I later bought the car at auction with around 40k miles on it. It had been hit a couple of times, but ran really good. I don't have any good stories about it that I can remember, but I did take pics of all 3 together in my driveway (my '93, 1187, and the city car). I was already bitten by the bug by that point, but I figured I'd share the rest.

The first 4 sale ssp for me came just after i moved to this remote area (McAllen)almost 5yrs ago , I was on a test drive from work and spotted a 4eyed coupe.
Upon further insp and a young kid coming out of a yunk yard mentioned it was a FHP.Black ext w-tan int... for the life of me i can't remember if it was an 84-86 ????
Dumb-Dumb me !!!! I returned back to work , went the next day to better look at the car and it was gone !!!
Just a month ago i spotted the car again with a 4sale in the rear window , by the time i did a U turn it was out of sight!
I have run an add on CL here local hoping the car turns up but NO luck.
Even offered a small cash reward leading to info on this car since it's a small area down here.

I had no interest in the car the first time i saw it as i didn't know how rare/unique it was. now i would give a nut for it!!
