Default Found another one around the corner

While on the way back to the office from completing a job I looked towards an auto parts store and what did I see…a 1987 FHP SSP in uniform. The car needs some work but it was nice to see the owner was driving it as it should be.

The owner, Anthony, has been the owner of this unit since auction in 1991. He told me the unit number, if he remembers from the title, was 3924. I gave him the sight address and he said he would join in start posting.

That's sweet! I think if I saw something like that in a parking lot, I'd flip! Not too many of them in the New England states though...

That's cool to see him driving it around. Hope he joins here.

Question - Is it legal for him to drive that car in Florida with it still painted in that color scheme?

That car is in Florida. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing illegal about driving or owning that car as is. The issue arises when you have wanabes flashing lights and acting like Nimrods.

FHP vehicle paint scheme
The black-and-cream paint scheme is actually camouflage to help the vehicle blend in with the road surface (black) and parched grass medians (cream). The paint adds $657 to the purchase of each vehicle. Prior to sale, the patrol defaces the cars so that they cannot be misconstrued as official law enforcement vehicles. The defaced, two-tone paint deflates each car's resale value by approximately $400.
It is a misdemeanor in Florida to operate a car in the colors of the FHP.

Texhunter,

I have first hand knowledge that it is not illegal to drive a black and tan. The charge will not hold up in court. There has NEVER been a conviction on such a charge in the state of Florida.

Glad to hear that Marcos, we are planning a possible move back to Pensacola in the near future and couldn't stand the thoughts of changing the paint scheme or changing cars so thats a welcome relief!
