Did SSP’s have “scanners” in them?
Curious question….
I’ve seen quite a few images online of numerous restored SSP’s. I know some restorations are left up to interpretation and may not be 100% “correct” as far as how the vehicle was actually equipped when in service with XYZ Agency. The question I have is, some of these images are showing “scanners” mounted in them such as Uniden 760, Radio Shack “Pro 2xxx” series, and the Realistic “Patrolman” scanners. Are these just civilian owner “add-ons” or did some Agencies actually install mobile scanners that complimented their State/County/Town issued Motorola or GE radio equipment? I’m having a hard time thinking that an Agency installing “Radio Shack” or “Realistic” scanner equipment…. My thought is this was just a civilian add-on to “build up” the look of interior equipment OR to have activated during shows?? Can anyone offer input?

Many agencies installed them. CHP is a great example. Many officers did so on their own, so they could hear what was going on in adjacent jurisdictions. It sucks not having interoperability via radios.
