It also could be that the aftermarket one you tried to use was a little taller than the factory one. I had the same problem with an Energy Suspension one and went and bought an NOS one.

Hi Tom. Yup it was by just a bit. I'd say it was 3/16-1/4" taller than the 26 year old one I took out. Although the one I removed was falling apart. One side was not attached to the steel anymore.
