You should have a 4 digit unit number on the door....above or below the door data sticker. CHP used a paint pen, and they were usually painted over when they retired the cars. You should still able to be read it if you look closely.

As for the writing you mentioned...no idea. Got a pic of it?

I chipped the paint from my '83 DPS sticker....it had been completely painted over, and I used a screwdriver to start, then my fingernails when I got to the sticker. I didn't want to risk using any solvents and damaging the sticker.
