Historical TX DPS Aero images 1997
4 Attachment(s)
I continue to dig and as I find, I like to share on this site for others who may be restoring or own an SSP.
Here’s my recent findings for the Aero TX DPS: The (4) attached images are of a “simulated” stop of a Mercedes where the perps allegedly stole tools and subsequently are arrested. These are period photos from Austin 1997 found publicly online. Anyone own the TX unit in the photos or is it in the VIN project? I do not have any other info that what is posted. |

This batch of photos again publicly available online, is from the very well known Military Helicopter photo which is center and above the SSP and Caprice. In the event anyone doesn’t know, that photo was actually of a road block around Fort Davis on a West Texas highway for the 1997 Republic of Texas Militia standoff in May 1997. The photos attached are of the same setting without the Helo.
I’ve never seen these photos before without the helicopter, here or elsewhere. In the sunset photo, SSP Mustang is on right side. The other thing very cool about these period photos is the clear images of the TX uniforms of the time. Enjoy! |
In the above images from the Militia standoff, enlarge the pic with the car where it has both doors open. Analyze the passenger side door decal. It appears as if the decal is “squared” and is not the more common “rounded” black background where the State of TX and the white letters are overlaid on it. It looks like sun glare or possibly dirt around the edges of the decal where (to me) it definitely looks like a square application.

Nice finds and observations!
