1993 SSP Coupe Build

I have always wanted a coupe. I have always had GT's and the right coupe just never came along. I was able to come to a deal with the owner and buy this. It is right up my alley since I have a knack for buying Mustang that are all apart. I am really going to enjoy putting it back together. It is a 1993 LX SSP 5.0L 5-speed. It was originally an Auto but someone put a clutch pedal in it and put the extra console support piece in along with having the 5-speed wiring. It fooled me right up until I saw the door tag. It was converted to black interior and all the really hard hard to find coupe specific black interior parts are with it. Between the parts that came with the car and what I have in storage/part cars I have everything needed to reassemble the car with stock parts. I will figure out a plan as I go along. I need to get primer down on the bare metal. BTW the car is rust free.

The story.

This car has changed hands a lot locally here. I was told a guy got it, sunk a lot of money in it, got mad at it, bashed the pass fender in, and then parted it out. The guy I got it from saved it from the dumbass who parted it out.

EDIT: I really enjoy saving dead cars. I put a GT back together that was worse than this one. I don't plan on selling it and plan on keeping it for a long time.

The car was painted just weeks before being parted out.

The engine bay was smoothed but the guy I bought it from didn't like how it was done so he was redoing it and hiding the wiring.

It even has a leather E-brake handle

Congrats on saving it! A lot of work ahead of you, but it's worth it. It'll be interesting to see what agency in Texas it served at!

That VIN is in a group of 10 (PF177544-PF177553). Looks like the first four went to TX and the last six may have been GSA.

Interesting....ordered with 16" wheels and shows fleet but doesn't actually say SSP package under the options like most I've seen. Fox, you've seen way more Marti's than me. What do you think??

John10608 03-03-2014 09:45 PM

My Marti report stated 16" wheels also. But the car came with 15".
Not sure why the reports state that sort of info.

Congrats on saving the car ! My hat's off to you for the work you have ahead of you. !! It's a good thing that you enjoy putting it all back together like that !
The good thing is, it is all ready for paint !! Nothing to remove ! Just body work, paint and put it back together.

Wondering if the guy that grinded that logo in your car if his name was " Dick " ?? Just a thought lol

FoxChassis 03-03-2014 09:50 PM

Marti Auto has to do extra work to figure out if it is an SSP. It is possible for them to miss it. This one obviously is one, per the "DSO POLICE" buck tag.

That ordering dealer is still in business. Maybe a call to them could garner some info?
