Correct pinstripe for 1989
After looking at some online photos of Minnesota State Patrol SSPs, I found one that was close enough to see that it had a single pinstripe vs. the double pinstripe that was on my car (I know it was painted on from the factory in 89). Mine was tape and was put on after the car was repainted in 1997. So it has been on there for 14 years and I was apprehensive about trying to remove just the lower (thinner) stripe. Some tape pinstripes are 1-piece and have clear between the lines to let the paint show through, luckily mine were separate pieces of tape. But last night around midnight (after the garage had cooled down to 90) I decided to give it a go. I was nervous that it would peel the paint under it, or leave a shadow, or adhesive mess. Luckily for me it came off easy, and the twin adhesive/dirt lines left behind came off with some wax and elbow grease. You would never no it had been there. :D

I have a few cars that will need the pinstripe put back on them. Do we know of anyone that sells the correct stripe?

Prostripe brand pinstripes. Can be bought at autobody paint supply places.
I used thier 1/4" stripe in slate gray for my 92 PA car. About as close as you can get to original. I took lots of measurements and pics of a few original cars that had pinstripes. |
thank you. Good info.

stripe width is 1/8" not what i posted earlier.

Here is how my pinstripes look now (you can see my newly installed NOS quarter windows too). The gray MSP SSP reference photo is from MaroonCruisers.com.

Ive looked at a few diffrent cars, and took lots of measurements all the oem painted single stripes seem to be an 1/8" wide and run about a 1/4" off the body line.
I am not sure if the mustangs came factory with a double stripe??? |
