92 CHP SMPV #9136 Comes Home

Update: CHP SMPV #9136 has come home to roost in my garage. I acquired it from my cousin last night and hope to restore it back to SMPV status in the future. With the newborn on the way in a few months, it may take a while to get to it, but am quite excited.

I have always dreamed of getting a CHP SSP, and it finally came true! I am likely going to be asking a whole lot of questions in the future, and will likely start to scout for CHP gear as well. So...keep your eyes peeled for hard to find gear. http://www.sspmustang.org/forums/ima...en_biggrin.gif

I will photo document the car as we go to see what we find and to get your opinions as well.

Hooray...another SSP saved and kept in the family (so to say)!

Good deal...How were you able to confirm it?

Mike, good question. I supppose that I will never really be able to "confirm" it, but based on the conversations on the various boards, it has all the signs of being an SMPV, but the assignment card could not be found @ CHP.

The car never had a whip antenna (Driver's Quarter), has a hole in the trunk deck for an antenna, was originally a black and white, but then painted white all over, then painted green when it went up for auction.

The guy we bought it from said the car has been in the family since acquired at the auction and that it had been green when they bought it.

"Likely" it was an SMPV car, or some other kind of special outfit. Car does have dual spot mounts, so I assume it was used in enforcement somehow. I sure wish some documentation would surface to show one way or the other, but we may never know.

Sounds like an interesting car....How do you know it was painted white before green? Is there a bunch of overspray?

I have head that CHP painted some B&W cars all white and used them as admin cars. The last '93 that In-Pursuit sold was one of those. Did you happen to see that one? Maybe the antenna arrangement was the same?

Charles W. sent me a pic of a '93 B&W that had the updated antenna setup (no whip, cell-style on the rear glass, + the roof). I ended up buying the book that the pic came from, and there are several pics of that car in there.
