Opinions requested..
I'm considering buying the 91 FHP car in the for sale section (Craigslist, $650). Lots of obvious FHP stuff, (cream paint, antenna placement, lightbar wiring hole, etc..), but missing the door sticker and buck tags. Staple is there with two metal corners, but that's it. Price is right for an ok 5.0/5 speed body, but I'd want to restore it back to FHP specs. What is everyone's opinion on restoring the car without the tags/decal. Didn't see the Carfax, but seller stated that it was in Tallahassee at some point.
Thanks for any and all help... |
It's going to take money to restore it back. You will probably end up spending more on the restoration than the car would be worth once it's done (however, I'm guilty of that with my CHP). So you'll have to ask yourself if you're willing to that deep into a project.

I like to buy em cheap too. The car needs alot of work but the initial investment is low and you would be saving the car from the ricky racers and the hackers.
I say go for it. |
Jim,
I'll call you if I buy it and she divorces me.....:D ;) |
lol ok

The day will come that the door decals will be reproduced. Don't know about the buck tags. You may be able to do a title search w/ Florida and acquire a "POLICE" tagged copy from years ago. Marti will also be selling the later fox body Mustang reports shortly, so proof will be there.
IMO, the starting point should be solid or very inexpensive to make up for body work. If you are going to RESTORE a car, everything will be replaced with new anyway. Too many call a cosmetic job restored. |
Donny,
I agree....a restoration is not a paint job and a bottle of armorall. I like to try and make my cars look new but I also respect the guy that wants to keep the original paint and interior since it is only original once. |
So did you buy it?
|
Didn't buy it yet, but I probably will... I'm on third shift, having a hard time setting it up.
