Parts?

My buyer has had a setback and I am tempted to start working on the car again, now that there is some space in the garage. While I have the engine on a stand, what would be good things to change on it? I was thinking timing chain, gaskets, and clutch, maybe water pump. Is there a preferred spot to get the parts or is rock auto fine?

Also, is there a good way to get the valve covers looking good again or anywhere I could send them to get them refinished?

I would replace the timing chain, oil pump, and gaskets.

cam and lifters, timing chan and gears, oil pump, rear main seal, ALL gaskets, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel turned, new pilot bearing, throw out bearing, water pump, and maybe valve seals.....

Bead blast the valve covers.

Or ya, you could do a whole rebuild. How many miles are on the motor? How did it run? Knock, smoke, etc. I've taken a junk yard 302 that I heard run, cleaned it up, replaced the timing chain, oil pump, and gaskets, and ran it hard for quite some time with no problems. I guess it depends on if your going to keep it, or sell it. And if you keep it, how often and hard are you going to drive it? You already have alot in it you need to get out of it if you sell. If you're going to replace the cam, you might as well send it out to get cleaned, inspected, honed, and new cam bearings put in.
