1988 NYSP

Many of you may remember the pair of '88 NYSP SSP's we acquired from a fellow member a couple years ago. The first car (the one we restored) had about 60k miles when taken out of service with a blown engine. The first civilian owner pulled the engine and trans and the car sat ever since. The second car was rusted / rotted beyond belief, but had a complete running drivetrain. We decided to take the pair to make one. Here are few pics.

This picture was taken from an article MOSTANG acquired from the Buffalo August 5, 1990 Magazine. Based on the equipment mounting screw holes we found in the car, we decided to mimic this equipment setup. Plus, we thought it was pretty cool to have the radar antenna mounted just behind the console.

We're nearly finished, just waiting on decals and need to wrap up some minor things. We lucked into a set of NOS quarter windows and a NOS h-pipe we decided to use on this car. We haven't decided if we want to add the red pinstripe in the body moulding or not. I've seen pictures of NYSP's both with and without. When we got the car, it didn't have any, except on the rear bumper.

Car looks great Jonathon!!! I personally like the ones with the red stripe as it adds a little something extra and ties in with the light bar...

It's looking great, glad the article could be of help. Any interior pics you can share? Awesome looking car! And for whatever it's worth, I think the red stripe is an interesting touch, if it originally had it.

Thanks guys! We aren't quite finished with the interior, but here is a quick pic. Still waiting on a replacement multifunction switch to come in, finalize the mount / height of the radar antenna, and a few other minor things. We decided to reuse all of the original interior, with the exception of replacing the carpet and headliner.

As I mentioned above, our car only had the red stripe on the bumper when we got it like this in-service picture here. So we were leaning toward just doing that.

But, it certainly looks good all the way around.

The 1988 NYSPs with VINs ending with JF2588xx were the only 1987-89 units that I have seen so far that have a MLDG code on their door tag other than "XXX". The 1988 NYSPs with VINs ending with JF2588xx that I have seen so far have MDLG code "SSS".

Ford switched to a single letter MLDG code for 1990 and "X" has been on every SSP door tag so far for those two years. Ford started painting moldings body color in 1992 and there have been a multitude of MLDG codes so far for those last two years, ranging from A through L.

The 1990 NYSPs with VINs ending with LF2055xx that I have seen so far have MLDG code "X".
